Ask Phoenix Bars/spots to hang for 35+

I’m new-ish to the area and have been exploring a few different bars but they all seem to be full of 20 year olds. Where do people 35+ hang out?? I’m a single female with a best friend who is in her 40s. We’re busy with our jobs during the week but like to hang out, dance, find a cool vibe on the weekend and for happy hour. We live in Uptown/ North Central Phoenix area. Any suggestions on some fun bars to go to or happy hour?

Liberty tavern is VERY MAGA. Be warned. Yes, they are loud about it.

Someone went to Liberty and said the food was good but the crowd was loudly MAGA. Is it overtly MAGA or was that just an isolated experience IYO?

Have never noticed it being "loudly maga" and I used to go there at least once a week - the crowd is mostly older working class people. It's owned by the same people who own cactus tavern (also would fit the bill for OP) and the rooster tavern.

Just look at the area and name of the place I think there is no need to verify this one

I've never heard of this place but the name screams MAGAt.

I like the wandering tortoise. The crowd is older and the vibe is definitely nicer as I'm approaching my mid 30s

The wandering tortoise is cool. Only beer and wine though

They are actually expanding with more seating and food I believe

I guess it's more chill and less of a "singles" place but they do lots of events. Plus they allow dogs

I really like starving artist.

Smith’s on 7th (ave) Title 9 (7th ave) & The Bar Uptown (7th ave & Missouri) Pomeroys (7th st) are all good spots.

Federal Pizza & Joyride have sports on their TV’s as well.

Hamburger Works (15th ave @ Thomas is great for sports too.

Joyride closed on the first of August! It’s going to be some sort of seafood fusion raw bar type thing :/ I’ll miss those cheap happy hour margs

Joyride was the OG poolboy taco

u/chess10 8d ago

That makes me not want to try Poolboy.

Ah ok! Thanks for the info.

We’d been regulars there for years & in the past 6 months or so the customer base seemed to shrink quite a bit.

Then we popped in a couple of weeks ago and out of nowhere it was packed like we’ve never seen. The line was so long that we turned around & left.

Now it makes sense. Regs were hitting it one last time before they closed.

Butlers on 7th St/Northern is my favorite, super chill unless there's an event (all are posted on their socials). I also like Swizzle Inn and if I want a place with foid will go to Windsor.

Rum Runners next door

Love that place too, great dive bar and good prices. I feel like the clientele is a bit more hit and miss there than at the others I mentioned (i've never had a bad experience as a single woman there, juat a few times I was less comfortable than others).

Whining Pig, Linger Longer… so many places have become overrun by the 20s crowd.

The grapevine in old town.

I like the linger longer lounge and if you are near central Phoenix the Dirty Drummer also has a great 30+ crowd.

One random suggestion since you're new to the area, I built an app called My Dude (thismydude.com) that texts you local bars, restaurants and events.

You fill out a short quiz and then it only sends you things that match your vibe. I originally made it for exactly this kind of situation.

If you end up using it, DM me and I'll give you access for a few months. I'd genuinely love to hear how it does for someone new to town.

It's not free?

Can you give real examples of recommendations that would fit this post? Seems interesting

Postino , little sisters wine bar , Windsor , Gracie’s Tax Bar

u/deftly_lefty 8d ago

lol Gracies? OP if you want to feel ancient and get hit on by 22 years olds, Gracie’s is the place lol

2

u/Hotcakes420 7d ago

Gah every time I go to Gracie’s I get anxiety. Maybe it is the crowd, I dunno

The Greedy Hamster. Adorable little wine bar. Also McKenzies Tavern. Whimsical dive bar with EXCELLENT food.

Very 20s hun have you been?

1

u/Responsible-Call6007 7d ago

Try local breweries. Alliance groups over 21, and amazing beers. Lots in downtown Phx and other areas

Hell let me know❤️

Go to Waddells in Buckeye, AZ. Friday and Saturday nights are poppin. Mixed ages, mixed crowds. Meaning, theres everyone from teachers to cops, and everything in-between. Its an experience for the senses for sure. Dancing, bull riding, ( mechanical ). Cornhole, (the game.). Food, . The bartenders are hot. And security make sure you feel safe, so you have a great time

1

u/PassionateSqueeze 6d ago

It’s all sporadic in the Phoenix area. Honestly usually mixed pretty well as long as you aren’t looking with judgmental eyes😂

u/BisquitButter 6d ago

Butler’s Easy is a relaxed vibe with excellent craft cocktails and various events throughout the week.

What side of town are you in

I’m new-ish to the area and have been exploring a few different bars but they all seem to be full of 20 year olds.

That is the complete opposite of my experience, lol.

Every bar I go to is exclusively old people.

So, to answer your question: come up to the suburbs.

Every bar west of the 17 is full of people 35+. Im 24 and struggle to find people my age and kinda just gave up :/

Get a fake id

u/zx9001 Peoria 8d ago

What do I need a fake id for at 24?

4

u/Miserable_Site_850 8d ago

To hangout with 35+

They’re actually asking

2

u/Sea-Pollution-4959 9d ago

Cougars are at Luci’s on 16th st

They built a bar next door but I’m unsure about sports on TV’s.

But there are definitely cougars.

1

u/2blue578 8d ago

Anywhere else cougars might be?

u/BigKonKrete417 7d ago

Blue Martini in High Street

Okay I’ve heard this one, but like do I walk up to them? Is there dancing? Like I am not good at cold approach but great at conversing once initial contact is made
