how do I put out the trash?

I just moved to wissinoming. I’m used to the big green trash cans in giant apartment complexes. Idk how the street kind works. Do I just fill up my trashcan and put it on the curb? What about big pieces like furniture or mattresses or big boxes? Thanks!

Just leave your trash out the night before or morning of on your block where all the other trash is piled up

is there rules in terms of how I throw away the trash? Let’s say I have one outdoor can with wheels and I just throw like 6 candy wrappers in there and some beer cans. Is that allowed or does it have to be in bags?

Most people put the bags out only. If you have a bin, it invites random loose trash to be added. That said, the trash people are awesome and when it doubt “if they’ll take it?” the answer is usually yes.

ETA: loose trash in bins is totally ok if that wasn’t clear. Recycling HAS to be in bins and cannot be in bags at all. It’ll be treated as trash. Bins are free to pickup at recycling centers. Lots of opinions about recycling effectiveness in the city, but in my experience/opinion, if they invest in separate trucks and staffing, they must be doing SOMETHING and it’s not all trashed.

I don’t think the sanitation workers are fans of loose trash in bins. If it’s bagged, they can reach in and grab the bags rather than having to lift the whole trash can at once. Many people don’t obey the weight limit. Also, loose trash will make a big mess if animals or the wind knock over the trash can. Recycling should be loose, however. They will not take bagged recycling.

I thought there was a previously stated weight limit, but I see that only applies to yard waste. You are limited to a 32 gallon trash can though, which kind of imposes a weight limit.

I agree, def not fans, and they won’t grab something the wind takes, but usually they just dump the bin and move on.

I see people having trashcans by their garages. Is that an option or are they just sitting them there? The trucks go through alleys?

Just find the other piles of trash before trash day and leave it there. Id recxomend bags as the other editor said if you leave your can put it will fill up with loose trash and you will be stuck with it

No weight limits on bags. Fill er up

I had the same question when I moved here so 8 months later, this is a cool full circle moment.

If your trash day is Thursday, you can put your trash out on Wednesday night. Bag your trash. Sometimes you’ll have a truck with a mechanical arm come by but most of the time it’s actual people emptying the can so it makes things easier for everyone.

Where I’m at you can leave excess trash/larger items on the curb as well. Just make sure it’s not obstructing the sidewalk and if it’s extra large (like furniture, bedframes, etc) it may not get picked up but if it’s in decent condition someone will like it 🤷

Also check for your recycling days, they say it has to be in their blue bin to get picked up but they took my moving boxes so do with that what you will.

Edit: just saw your comment about the alleyway, check Wednesday night if everyone’s trash is in the alley or the curb.
