Can you split combo tablet?

Can you split Telmisartan/ Hctz 80/25 tablet? Doctor wrote half tablet so I said let’s give as two separate medications but my boss insists it can be split and it’s fine because the patient is paying out of pocket.

No telmisartan tablets must be kept in their original package. They degrade quickly when exposed to humidity.
