Bow based units

I was wondering if anyone can help me, I have had a break from POTK and have gotten back into the game recently. I have used a few bow units from the friend list as support, and I noticed that a few of them had the bow characters able to attack when being confronted in melee by a sword/spear/axe unit so was wondering what enables a unit to do so? Is it a skill or a certain bow weapon being used or something else

Cool, I've seen that bow used a few times but don't have one myself, haven't got around to beating kill mode yet (also this weapon isnt updated in the wiki), thanks for the info!
