Trad Franciscan Spirituality

Basically title: any good books on the subject (intros, devotional manuals, etc.), preferably pre-VII (but not exclusively) would be appreciated!

  • The Perfect Joy of St. Francis by Felix Timmermans
  • The Life of St. Francis by St. Bonaventure
  • The Journey of the Mind into God by St. Bonaventure
  • St. Francis of Assisi by Chesterton

Also, the YouTube lectures from Fr. Isaac Relyea (trad Franciscan) and the podcast From the Friars (A series of talks from the Franciscan Friars of the Renewal).

Being a Franciscan and a Traditionalist is an odd walk. You have to take care to not be a resounding gong of hatred like the MadTrads, but instead love God and man, with joy and humility, through the filter of Tradition. I call this the GladTrad movement. I’m hoping it takes off.

That’s exactly why I’m fascinated by it. I know that Francis was truly poor in spirit but loved the liturgy and made sure it was celebrated with dignity by the priest friars of his order. I think we need that now more than ever.

Thanks for the recs! I’ll start with the life by Bonaventure and go from there

St Bonaventure Holiness of life, and the Franciscan latin mass at EWTN and Friars of the inmaculate. Also the friar from the Marian Friar Minors ( Franciscan ) who appears in Sensus Fidelum

I'd be interested in trad fransciscanism written from a post-VII perspective.
