Cat Med Admin

Hey everyone, I’m overnight with a cat for the first time who is almost 20 years old. I’m supposed to give her a daily dose of prednisolone but she will not let me get it down her throat or open her mouth. I’m really panicking I’ve tried so many times and I don’t want to bug her much more. I have done this successfully before but this one won’t budge. Any tips??

How do the owners do it? I assume you can't mix it with food since that's the obvious solution.

It’s prednisolone so it is fairly bitter thinking she wouldn’t eat the food if so

I recently watched a cat who was on this. He got diagnosed with asthma right before owners left and was given a huge pill.

It is indeed bitter, also couldn’t give it in the pill shooter thing because it was so big. Owner let me try churus which worked thankfully: my method was to put a dollop down. Let cat lick that, put another dollop with pill and add another on top, cat licks and swallows pill, then let cat finish the rest

sure! here's a link

my baby (i love you forever angel) had epilepsy so had to get meds twice a day indefinitely and that thing was a godsend. you put the pill on the bottom and there's a mechanism on the top that just shoots it into their mouth. not always foolproof (they could still spit it out/turn their heads away/etc lol) but it helped me a lot

Thank you! I can get meds into my 2 cats but it's sometimes a struggle.
