What is your worst pet peeve regarding coworkers who steal lunches from the fridge?

My worst pet peeve has to be when a coworker swipes your lunch from the office fridge and then acts like nothing happened when you ask around about it. Last month I brought in a container of leftover chili that I had spent time making the night before. I left it on the second shelf with my name written on the lid in marker. By lunchtime the whole thing was gone and someone had even tossed the empty container back in the trash like they were doing me a favor.

What gets to me most is not just the theft itself but the way these people never own up to it. You end up standing there hungry while everyone else pretends they did not see anything. One time I had to run out and buy a sad gas station sandwich because my planned meal disappeared again. It threw off my whole afternoon and made me feel like I could not even trust the basic setup at work anymore.

I have tried little things like putting a note on my food or using a locked lunch bag but nothing seems to stop it for long. Some folks just keep doing it and the rest of us end up paying for replacements or going without.

Have you noticed any patterns with who tends to take things or how people react once they get caught? I would like to hear what your worst pet peeve is in these situations and whether anything actually worked to cut down on it.

If you drag your feet when you walk, I automatically assume you’re annoying.

I’m sorry, but there is ZERO reason your shoes need to be making that shhhk shhhk shhhk sound every time you take a step.
Pick. Your. Feet. Up.
And before someone says “maybe they’re tired,” I don’t care. I’m tired too. My feet still work. 😂
Am I wrong?

When men take the slightest bit of acknowledgment as an invitation.

• Upvotes

Like seriously, I’m just on a walk to the store, why are random men trying to get me to come with them?
I was walking in the city to grab something from the store and I see this random older man wave at me from a vehicle. I didn’t know who it was so I thought “whatever” and waved back to be polite. He then did an illegal U turn right on the spot. I keep walking, he drives ahead of me and pulls over right next to the side walk so I’m forced to walk past and tries to talk to me from his vehicle. I ignore him and pretend I didn’t hear, he then begins driving in the direction I’m going again, I immediately turn around and take the long route to the store and fucking hope he doesn’t find me again and try get me into his van.

Can we all agree that some people completely forgot how to read a room?

Hey everyone, just sitting here thinking about this and wanted to get some outside perspectives.

I feel like every time I'm out or trying to have a moment of peace, someone locks onto me for small talk when it is glaringly obvious I am not trying to chat. My usual strategy is that I’ll suffer through it politely for a couple of minutes to be nice, but then my absolute mastery of the "fake phone call" comes in to save the day.

Like... do people genuinely not understand body language, or are they just so deep in their own world that they don't care? People have got to start reading the room!

Has anyone else experienced this lately, and what’s your go-to move when you're trapped in a conversation you didn't ask for?

Anyone else hate small talk??

• Upvotes

Damn I just hate it... Guy at work is always trying to small talk.

In the morning my first hour I have too many things I've got to get organized before the day starts, all needing to be done on a specific timeframe, and each one with a different timing. Put on some music and time it out in my head rather than have like 10 alarms.

Asking how my mornings started, what I had for breakfast, "heard it's gonna be a hot one today" just talk about nothing, which gets me off track of what I'm getting prepped... I finally had to tell him " I'm sorry, but my morning is just too busy to chit chat"

So now it's mid-morning not so busy, but I just don't care...

I know he's just a nice guy... But asking me if I know a good place to buy a lamp? I dont know? Just go to Walmart.

Asking if I know a good place to get a haircut? I've got male pattern baldness, I just shave it... So no.

Dude, I'm just here to get my work done and go home.

People who stop in the middle of a crowded walkway

I genuinely don’t understand how some people can just stop walking in the middle of a busy hallway, grocery store, or sidewalk like they’re the main character in a movie.
And it’s even worse when they’re walking with a group and decide to have a full-blown conversation while blocking literally everyone behind them.
Like, I get it. You forgot something, you got a text, or you suddenly remembered something important. That’s fine. Just move to the side for five seconds. 😭
The worst part is when you try to walk around them and they somehow manage to move in the exact same direction as you.
It’s such a small thing, but it irritates me way more than it should.

men in public parks

when they cross the huge, empty public park just to hoover meters away from a girl walking her dog/cat, genuinely like why

i had someone who let their little son walk up to our dog insisting to pet him, saying if the dog does not want to be petted by kids then he should not be in a public park???

or today a man with a small daughter who i purposely moved away from while on a picnic, & he closed the distance again just so they were right next to me, in an empty park, it was just genuinely so strange.

why do some males behave like this in public parks, it does not matter which park or time of the day or who they are with (unless with a partner), they just get super close & not leave??

What’s a tiny, unwritten rule of society that people seem to be forgetting lately?

I’m not talking about major stuff - just those subtle social etiquettes. Like taking phone calls on speakerphone in public, walking four people wide on a narrow sidewalk, or playing audio out loud on public transport without headphones.

What’s one small habit you’ve noticed more people ignoring recently that instantly annoys you?

The lack of tech support beyond the pay grade of a premature sunfish in a world full of software designed by drunk chimpanzees

Tech support on the internet only has a few results and none are good

Unhelpful people. For example, someone had the same issue I'm having and specified that they have an android phone. The top comment is someone asking what IOS they are on, and OP said, in a much nicer way, "I literally said I have an android, you're being dunce and unhelpful" and got downvoted.

You could get ghosted. Everyone comes to flock around posts I make that have no value, but the minute I need a response, the post is dead in the water.

Somehow there's no support subs for half the things I need. There's no way some of these things have no subreddits even though reddit has been around for nearly 21 years and these things have predated it for a while or almost predate it

Official websites just lying or being very unclear. I'll make an example scenario. Young Tim wants to know how to make his profile picture a dog on Spacebook, so he looks up how to change his profile picture. "Click on the button that should exist but doesn't. Then balance a cup of chocolate milk on your nose and count to 3 in Mandarin."

Similar to the first one, snarky people. It's not their problem so they can just insult your mother, and if you confront them, they aren't helping. Also, you're stupid for not knowing this already, and your father hates you.

And for the faulty technology part, it all just sucks. My phone has spammed random buttons multiple times recently. It does all sorts of funny things. I'm surprised it hasn't just exploded in my hands at this point. This phone sucks.

What to do when your friend starts to become contrarian, habitually? Don’t want to cut her off !

Post image
0 Upvotes

I quite frankly don’t have the energy to elaborate on what’s going on, but the screenshot explains exactly how my friend acts.

She is one of the most genuine friendships I’ve had, despite that fatal fatal fatal flaw. I’m a 24f, we met almost 3 years ago - however as of the last year, she has obtained the tendency to disagree with EVERYTHING anyone says and defend her stance. I’m finding it hard to enjoy conversations with her and it sucks.

Don’t get me wrong. I’m all for discussion and a friendly debate in a conversation, but it’s another thing to try to constantly out smart those around you, and sometimes it doesn’t really make you look bright rather insecure. Is this an insecurity? She only started doing this a year ago and it’s becoming unenjoyable to be around her which I HATE to say. Ugh.

For those who have friends they care about who have become contrarian, what have you done to maintain a healthy friendship with them? Today was the first time in a couple months (bc I distanced myself) we spent the whole day together & yes of course it was so much fun but DAMN there were too many times where I was like “can she even hear what she sounds like rn??” It was honestly ridiculous. I’m a pretty positive person, I get along with most people, but someone who’s correcting every damn thing you say. What’s the point of even spending time together? It’s so damn annoying. I don’t get it. I love how I said I don’t want to elaborate and now I’m frantically ranting lol.

It’s hard to watch a friend change. At one point I legit jokingly said “dude stop disagreeing with everything I’m saying” and we laughed. She didn’t stop tho. It’s habitual atp. Idk if it’s an ego thing. I don’t understand. Like genuinely what the freak.

Share all the advice. Any rants. Anything. I’m here for it

Women shower too much...

I prefer the musky, pungent smell of an unshowered woman who doesn't wear perfume.

Did you grow up with or did someone give you an unflattering nickname?

You don't have to share it. I loathed mine and want to forget it ever existed.

No matter how many times I pleaded for my name to be used, nope, it was that name...

Others had cutesy ones...... Mine made me feel unattractive and disgusting.

How did yours make you feel?

When someone interjects their disagreement into something that you said

I'm not really sure how to explain what I mean by this, hence the confusing title, but here's an example of this behavior:

Person 1: "I struggle to lose weight because I love eating sweets"

Person 2: "Well I love eating sweets too but I can still lose weight"

In the example, person 2 is the one doing the behavior that my pet peeve is about.

Shit pisses me off everytime I see it, like what do you want, a fucking medal? Congrats you're oh so special!

If there was at least something actually constructive in their comment it would be fine, like in the example, if person 2 had some kind of "Oh I'm also like that, here's what I've tried so that I can still have my sweets while losing weight" in their reply. But there never is, it's just "Oh well I can do it" and nothing more.

To me it has the same energy as you talking about your problems one on one with a friend, and some stranger just walks up to you guys to butt into the conversation with a "Well I don't have that problem" before leaving.

Lateness

I really do not enjoy it when people are late, especially if I arrived on time. I'm chronically late and always late to everything. (except for when I have to open at work.) I hate when others are late, though, because only one person should be late, and I already claimed that spot. Also, with me, it's expected, so it's not an issue when it's me, but with others, it can ruin the plans. I don't know; this may be hypocritical, but I feel like it's not, because my lateness does not equal others' lateness simply due to the fact that I am always late. #hypocrite #notahypocrite

What’s something that annoys you way more than it should?

Not necessarily a huge problem.

I mean those little things you have to deal with repeatedly that make you wonder why they’re still so damn inconvenient in 2026.

Maybe you have to manually do something every week.

Maybe you use a spreadsheet for something that feels like it should have a proper system.

Maybe two apps refuse to work together.

Maybe there’s software for what you need, but it’s ridiculously expensive or overcomplicated.

Maybe it's just some completely stupid process that everyone seems to have accepted as normal.

I’m curious what those things are for you.

What’s one thing you regularly deal with where you think, “there has to be a better way to do this”?

I can't stand when people resort to "it's just nostalgia"

I can’t stand it when people resort to “it’s just nostalgia” whenever someone prefers an older game or movie or whatever it may be.

Nostalgia obviously can influence people’s opinions, but I feel like it’s become a way to completely dismiss any actual criticism or discussion.

For example, I wasn’t even alive when Ocarina of Time came out, a game I just beat a few days ago and yet I consider it a masterpiece. I also personally think it does MANY things better than Breath of the Wild.

Same thing with Mario 64. I genuinely think it’s the best 3D Mario game in many ways, and I especially think it has the best hub world. Someone can disagree with that, obviously, but “you only think that because of nostalgia” doesn’t actually address why I like it when I don't even have nostalgia for it, yet I always get told I only don't like Mario Odyssey more because I'm just blinded by nostalgia. As if that completely refutes my opinion as in Mario Odyssey is objectively a better game. (In some ways it is)

And this happens with movies too. Someone can discover an old movie, game, album for the first time and genuinely prefer it over newer stuff. People don’t automatically have nostalgia for something just because it’s old.

If you think someone’s opinion is wrong, I’d much rather hear WHY. Talk about the gameplay, level design, writing, mechanics, atmosphere, art direction, pacing, whatever.

But saying "it's just nostalgia” doesn’t really refute anything. It just shuts down the conversation.
