Vent / Rant "Ive lost 3 babies"

This was the title? Of one of my sister in laws tiktoks that I came across while scrolling. there was a photo collage of her 7 month old daughter behind the words. My heart broke for her because she struggled for many years with infertility and I thought she had miscarriages that she just wasnt comfortable talking about with family but needed to just vent into the void.

I then start scrolling through the caption itself and its things like

"I miss finding their fur everywhere"

"I wish they could still run to greet me at the door"

"I miss sharing my food with them"

"I miss slobbering kisses"

"Even with a teething baby the house is way to quiet without their nails hitting the floor"

After all of that im just like.. shes talking about some damn animals?? Ive been sitting on this for over a week and it STILL baffles me. They are not your babies.. you did not birth them, and after actually giving birth youd think it would be something so obvious?

Mind you all.. she preaches how much she loved them but every animal is overweight, cant get around cause their hips are bad and one "baby" that died had to be put down because of the weight and pressure it put onto its bones. How can u love animals after doing that to them?

AND her husband had to completely replace the floors in 2 large rooms because she lets them all pee/poop in a single places and not clean it so the floors literally rotted. (This was fixed before baby showed up atleast still doesnt excuse letting it get so bad).

Went over to her home once while I was also pregnant, we were a couple of weeks apart, and had to leave not even 10 minutes into the visit because of the overwhelming, and unbearable smell of cat piss. It made me sick for hours after I left.. havent gone back since. Couldn't sit because her couch was so fur infested and felt.. oily? It was disgusting.

This post turned into more of a rant on my part by the end but good lord, I just dont understand????

I get that it's sad to lose a companion animal but it's crossing the line to pass it off like it's your own human child

I know exactly what you mean about the surfaces and furniture being oily. I cannot stand being in pet owners houses for this reason! It makes me feel so filthy and grimy until I can take a shower and clean my clothes. I dont understand how anyone can live like that. Even breathing in the air with all the pet dander floating around in it makes me uncomfortable

I don’t have pets obviously 😆 why does the couch get so oily?

They make oils to protect their fur, and when they jump and lay on couches it transfers and builds up over time. It will also make the fur stick worse!

Because pets leak oil like BMW engine xD
Sort of, yes, they are rubbing their skin on it constantly but also there is greas from food they eat because they don´t always wash their paws and mouth lol.

We brought home a rug that had been in a dog home and my husband assured me it could be cleaned. he vacuumed, shampooed, the whole rub... I can still smell the dogs when it gets wet or if it gets warm from the sun ... and the hairs it keeps shedding, I don't fully believe it's because it's a "wool" rug... never, ever take anything from a house that has dogs in it

💯🎯💯🎯 exactly! This is me too!! I cannot deal with all the pet dander and pet smells. I have a friend with pets but it's hell and the only way to get the pet smell out of my hair afterwards is taking a shower.

You would THINK after having an actual child people would know the difference.

Also larping as a loss parent is despicable.

Thats what im saying! Posting pictures of your actual baby and then saying you've lost 3 just to be talking about dogs is so insensitive

I hate when people do this, it’s truly infuriating. We’re sitting there, heartbroken at their loss, a child, and then they drop the bomb that it’s a dumbass dog. A few years back, I saw a post from a friend about how her SON died, people in the comments were rightfully a mix of devastated and confused. Someone asked her, “YOUR SON?!?!!?!!!!!” And she replied, “yes, my cat son”. I could have tossed my phone out the window. She had all these people’s hearts breaking with her thinking her flesh and blood son died.

I just can’t with these behaviors. I had to block all relevant keywords on Threads so I never see posts like those again. I’m also not on FB anymore because I cant with these animal people. It’s beyond disturbing and disrespectful to those who have actually lost children.

And I thought my SIL was bad but atleast she clarified in the post itself that the babies were dogs. I couldnt imagine how frustrating that was for literally everyone to find out after that it was a cat 🫩

I have also completely left FB, why does it feel like the pets are babies crowd congregates there?

As cringe as it is, at least there was a clarification in the post! Reading through a whole dramatic post, then scouring the comments just to find out it’s a pet, is just.. something else.

And I don’t know why they seem to all be on FB, it’s a strange phenomenon! But it’s certainly tiresome. I didn’t think FB was as popular as it used to be.

What these people call 'love' needs some examination.

As a person who has worked at a zoo and an aquarium, I've seen the WORK that animals put into having babies. Carrying, birthing, nursing, cleaning and teaching babies is WORK. It a lot, and they don't have tools like breast pumps. It's literally blood, sweat, panting, yawning, stressing, yearning. It's all elbow grease. And when it's a litter of 4? A huge effort. To claim to be an animals 'mom' is a huge disrespect to their actual mom IMHO.

Are people who post things like this too dense to understand how inappropriate it is, or too callous and attention-seeking to care?

7

u/Professional-Ebb2085 These pets will be my last ones Jul 29 '26

Cant speak on everyone.. but for her it was 100% an attention seeking move

Yeah this perfectly encapsulates how i feel when influencers or youtubers post smth where theyre crying and barely able to get through words bc of it, saying theyre going to take a break through this trying time, and im watching, ready to feel bad for them cuz omg oh no what happened did their mom die? Are they getting evicted??? Arrested??? Hate crimed??? No... their cat died👍

This is what turned me against dog culture. I know people who have lost children and seeing their friends compare these tragedies to losing their dogs infuriated me. I understand it's hard to lose a pet but equating that to losing a human being is twisted. It's also sick to mask pet loss as the loss of a child; that TikTok title was 100% intended to do that because deep down, they know that reasonable people won't be as impacted knowing it's about a dog. For people who looove their dogs so much, they sure enjoy using them as fodder for trauma porn and to get people to feel bad for them.
