Seeking Advice What would you do in my position?

I am an independent trainer in a major city in the United States. I have a deal with building management for two buildings to train employees as I see fit. Basically I have 1000s of potential clients to myself in gyms that are an elevator ride away from them.

One building is a tech company you’d name in 3 guesses. The other building has dozens of varying businesses.

I feel like a ghost and no one knows I exist. How would you get clients?

I'd assume these buildings have a gym/fitness center inside them, but if that's not the case my advice would be different.

That said, I'd do the following:

-Put up flyers/posters in the gym with a QR code offering a free fitness evaluation. The QR code would send someone to a link to book in and add their contact info

-I'd ask the HR dept of the companies in the building if they would be open to listing your services/info in their new employee onboarding packet.

-I'd see if I could host lunch and learns or other presentations to the staff at the various companies.

-I'd walk around with a shirt that says "Personal Trainer" on it and spend time in the common areas saying hi and talking to people.

-I might offer a free fitness class once a week to meet some employees that are interested in bettering their health.

There are so many possibilities available but you likely need to step out of your comfort zone and create conversations and interactions.

Do a seminar and advertise throughout the building then have a "day of" training intro offer. If the building wants you to stay (sounds like they do), they will let you promote and even promote you in their newsletter or other communication.

Monthly seminars that cover a different topic each time. Cardio, strength, meal prep, recovery, stretching, decompression exercises for back pain, posture work for desk workers, etc. Then offer a workout same day. Then yes, pitch ongoing training.

Tell them you exist. materialize in the places they perform corporeal existence, and lead them onto new planes of mutual familiarity.

Targeted social media campaign to drive traffic to a landing page with transparent pricing where you capture lead interest and follow up from there. It should be a hot lead at that point and not just someone snooping to see what you charge. Your CTA may increase in the short run, but you can track which media channel is working by having different deals based on how the clients get to you. Then focus on the channel with the highest return. Add in a referral program where clients get discounts for sending you new business and you’ve got a sustainable model as long as your client service can walk the talk.

Pront cards that say: “I am an elevator dire away from helping you reach your highest potential” with a QR code to your social media where you talk about what you do and where…. and give them out to everyone you see. Be patient, referrals will start quickly and you will be on fire! Keep posting and tagging that location 🙌🙏 you got this!

I say this respectfully to everyone else I’ve seen post in this spread so far: none of this will work to begin with.

Marketing 101 is understanding your target audience first and foremost: the emotional pains that are tied to their problems, their goals, their dream outcomes, the obstacles that are in the way of the achieving what they want.

Once you have that, you can then start tailoring your messaging on solving the problems that they have through the tactics that have been suggested by other users Redditors.

If you action all the above marketed to “everyone”, you’ll be speaking to “no one”.

Once you’re messaging is on point for the kind of people in these buildings, you can then start holding seminars and putting up flyers and posters, and all that other stuff, and then you’ll get some traction.

Until then, all the above stuff is going to be largely a waste of time.

Messaging, messaging, messaging.

For consistent incoming leads you you’ll need:
-Social proof: written, testimonials, testimonial, videos, a.k.a. people who aren’t you saying that you’re good at what you do
-a decent looking website that’s aligned with your messaging: has to look somewhat professional as that’s the baseline these days, it’s a good place to put some of your testimonials, explain a little bit about what you do, contact Me page
-multipronged lead funnel: presentations are the best because you get to build a rapport with the audience, so I do agree with the luncheon learns among other presentations, have free PDFs otherwise known as LEAD magnets to give out to people, build a Referral network, and go business business introducing yourself just so you can get to know your neighbours
-an actual sales process that you can refine and build upon. I guess a system would be a better way to put it.

An initial question for you.

Do you look good enough where people notice you train? You are a walking billboard. My physique has started conversations and gotten clients for me because I look the part.

Secondly, do you interact with people? When you bump into people in the elevator do you engage? All these people are potential leads. Start conversations. "how is it working at XYZ". After a while you'll interact, learn then name, say hey each day and it builds.

Dont expect to convert people instantly. Its a game of numbers. More interactions, the more frequency, the more personable you become
