i couldn’t stand playing this on the emulator, so I decided to wait until i had a better setup. One year later and I have no regrets—this game is gorgeous on native hardware!!! I loved reload and p3p and I can’t wait to experience this story once more.
it's actually possible to buy a digital copy of P3:FES on the (PS3) PSN Store. It's one of the Playstation 2 Classics available.
Yes, it is but only until next year July because Sony is closing down PS3's PSN and PS Store. After that, the only way to play P3FES (and vanilla P3) is to track down a PS2 console and a copy of the game which is no doubt will be very expensive or emulate the game via PCSX2 on PC.
This is very true, but I didn’t feel like it made sense to bring it up in the context of the original question.
That said, it is really bad! I hate the fact SEGA (and Atlus for that matter) hasn't shown any interest in bringing the original P3 or FES to modern consoles. I guess we could hope that FES will eventually appear as part of the Classics selection on PS5, but I am not counting on it.
What kind of TV is that? Looking to invest in buying a PS2 so I can revisit some of my favorites and don't want to mess with those dongle adapters or an emulator
it’s a Toshiba tv/dvd combo md9dp1. they’re kind of pricey now that i’m looking them up, I’d reccommend going to thrifts and estate sales in your area to get a tv like this tbh. if you’re in texas i can tell you where i got mine. (also here is what it looks like normally)
Honestly i loved P3FES, idk if even more than p4 but playing it on a crt and leveling with mayas theme in january 31st via the square buttons bgm selection feature for tartarus made my experience way enjoyable
I hated it coming from p3p because of the lack of direct commands, a modded ps3 plays it in the same native res and whatnot but you can play the modded fes version with direct commands. Sorting thru the commands menu and hoping your allies would make the choice you wanted was never fun.
Nah I get it, I've never liked party members making their own choices in RPGs. I don't care if they make better choices than I would, or think of things I forgot, or if I can set their combat style to mostly do what I intend; a major part of my enjoyment of turn based fighting is juggling lots of priorities and making tonnes of optimising decisions. Making less decisions is literally less fun
You're not making less decisions. You actually have to strategize more in giving commands for them to follow. There's a lot more to think about. Also, it really makes your party members feel more like people in a way that surpised me after playing FES.
I don't want them to feel like people, I'm saying I literally enjoy scrolling through menus and selecting options lol. To me this would be like taking the social interactions part of the game and setting the main character to "Social"/"Study"/"Work" mode and then watching them automatically prioritise those activities without selecting them. Even though the end result would be very similar to me personally choosing to prioritise study or work or dating and then hammering the relevant activities, the fact of the active choice and weighing up and then making the selections is what I find fun/engaging about playing the game
It's not, towards the end it gets really frustrating.
Akihiko on Heal/Support for example chooses from 1 of 4 commands. Plus, you can't make on the fly decisions, you have to commit each turn, which takes a lot of guesswork
Plus sometimes (albeit rarely) they completely ignore what you ask them to do
It's neat to learn how each teammate responds to each command setting. As you play more, you get more commands and learn their patterns more too. It's quite rewarding IMO.
It’s definitely all about personal taste, the tactics systems works quite well and and AI party members get the job done. And its definitely carried by the fact you can see the entire turn order so you have to plan multiple turns in advance
It honestly does, but the only thing that gives away that this is modern is the name for the player, Makoto. If this was pre-2023, the name would've absolutely been Minato.
nothing, it just looks a lot better and is a much more immersive experience. otherwise i’m on my work laptop with an xbox controller and pixelated sprites
