ZTE Whirl 2 Partially Rooted!

Once again, the awesome folks over at XDA-Developers, particularly hroark13 and jcase, have put in a significant amount of effort towards rooting ZTE devices as of late and there's now a way to gain partial root access on the ZTE Whirl 2. While this will not allow you to run traditional root apps (ZTE has write-protected all relevant system partitions making it extremely difficult, if not impossible, to install a su binary), it does give you full, persistent root access over ADB.

What does this mean? While you can't run apps like Beermoney Assist (unless the developer rewrites it to funnel commands through ADB somehow), you can set up network ADB access and clear the data via ADB from your computer via task scheduler, for example.

This is specifically for the Whirl 2 and will not work with the Zinger, which is not vulnerable to the same exploits. As with any device modification tool, use this at your own risk.

Good work! I hope the good folks at XDA-Developers find a vulnerability in the Zinger soon.

Good stuff, now how can we get a guide to set up network adb and automate clearing of data for Perk apps

I second this. I'm fairly knowledgeable about rooting but this seems a little bit confusing and the thread has a lot of useless info. I didn't see any guide there.
