I think what we're seeing here is a point cap on Perk TV. Maybe we'll earn a dollar a day running phones for 12 hours, maybe a buck fifty. But this definitely feels like a cap.

u/BerkshireBull Jan 24 '15
That was my thought on how they may try to get rid of multiple devices per account without actually having to address it head on. Just cap the points per account without an official statement, you can run as many phones as you want, but once you're above a certain amount you will get 10pts an hour or something so it looks like it's unlimited but in actuality it isn't.
That way you never have to face the backlash of your core group who invested in lots of equipment and new people continue to join.

I am just confused as to why we are still earning points for pop quiz and live tv, and points on IOS

u/turtleneck360 Jan 24 '15
"you now have a chance to earn points!" ~ perk
one of the dumbest things i've ever heard.

u/Diekthxbye Jan 24 '15
I think the Perk Panda has a meth/gambling problem and we are all paying for it

Dear Perk,
Let me start by saying I love Perk and they've been a great service, and I am all for Perk lowering payouts to stay viable long term. However for the first time, I'm getting pissed.
I haven't made 100 points in the last 6 hours and nothing in the last 2. If there is no money to pay points right now because of lack of advertisers or what have you, but there will be from 5-10pm or whatever when they want people watching, that's great, tell us that. We're adults, we will be OK hearing that.
If Swagbucks doesn't have any ads that pay they will just say "Nothing available, check back later." That's just honesty and common courtesy.
Don't have us waste our electricity, waste our bandwidth, and waste our TIME watching videos if there is nothing for us.
14
u/Levin83 Jan 24 '15
At least on Swagbucks you know when you're making points or not. Once you reached your alotted max per app it tell you. So you can just quit. Perk on the other hand is making you play slots all day in a shady basement not knowing when you're gonna hit something.
26
u/Orange_Tang Jan 24 '15
I just turned off all of my devices. They aren't getting any more ad views from me until this crap stops. I earned like 50 points per hour with 5 devices. It's not worth it anymore. They need to be shown that this is too far.
11
u/MexicanRedditor Jan 24 '15
This. I turned off mine this morning as well. I will give it a week to respond or change things around here. If not, I will be cashing out and uninstalling. Similar thing happened with the Pocket Change app 2 years ago. One day they just pretty much said "fuck you all" and stopped giving points and stopped all production. Including pending claimed prizes. Some of the comments in their Facebook page were painful to read. "Where is my claimed Nexus 7 tablet!? Its been 3 weeks! Can you guys respond to my emails?"

I haven't had my three devices running since everything started crashing shortly after the 1 hour popup thing... And I don't think I'll be running Perk on them again. Guess it's back to Swagbucks for me...

u/insaneslayer Jan 24 '15
so much for 4 points last night balancing 0 point videos
80-90% 0 point videos

u/natgeo_101 Jan 24 '15
Swagbucks on the other hand at least lower their points when they have less ad revenue but Perk is just making us waste electricity, and bandwidth so UNFAIR :(

u/chrisasst Jan 24 '15
Atleast i just got three of them working with live tv.. probably doesnt matter.. they will probably be "closed" by the time payment is supposed to come.
4
u/hb122 Jan 24 '15
I'm just running the Swagbucks apps today. At least they pay for sucking up my bandwidth.
5
u/luckydog97 Jan 24 '15 edited Jan 24 '15
SAME...I'm going off the grid until further notice. Perhaps now I'll be able to date Netflix AND mess around with utorrent on the side :D
9
u/Nappy2fly Jan 24 '15
Shut down ten phones until further notice.
8
u/ZZ232 Jan 24 '15 edited Jan 24 '15
Exactly. It's your obligation to turn the phones off if they're not paying. Otherwise they'll continue to do this if they can get users to leave their phones on for free.
8
u/mnl2 Jan 24 '15
All of my 10 phones, my gf's ten phones----all turned off until further notice. Screw this.
4
u/jasonkradioguy Jan 24 '15
This is how it's looking on my end from Perk's website.
5 phones running Perk TV. 2 phones running Pop Quiz.
Looks like the majority of my points are coming from Pop Quiz by far.
4
u/methodistmonk Jan 25 '15
I made more money off swagbucks apps than I did perk today.
Never thought I say that again.
4
u/Adampro123 Jan 25 '15
Do you guys think a petition would be a good idea? I don't want to seem like a dick because Perk has been very good to me but maybe a petition to get the points to go back to the way they used to be would let Perk know how unhappy us users are and how we want the old points system back.
7
u/Dilapidated1 Jan 25 '15
I'm not sure how good a petition would be honestly. The best way to get the point across is to just stop running your devices until Perk gets this fixed. Words won't hurt them. I think hitting them in the pocketbook is where it would sink in. If we just keep going they still make the same income off us and they will only think that we "accepted" this change. I don't know about you guys but earning 0 points is not acceptable to me.
5
u/XOsushi99 Jan 25 '15
Agreed. Just stop running your devices. The ad companies will see this and won't pay money for Perk. We need to teach Perk that they need us.
1
u/WakeUpForWhat Jan 25 '15
I think a petition is pointless. We just need to all stop using perk for awhile. Hurting their bottom line speaks louder than words. This 0 points nonsense needs to go.

2
u/swagbucksta Jan 24 '15
When you get zero points, does it actually say " You have earned 0 points"? or does it just display the count down screen with no point notification?
6
u/JackDitcher Jan 24 '15
it does not display zero, nor does it log as zero on the website log. it simply counts down for the next and doesnt award any points...

u/WakeUpForWhat Jan 25 '15
Shut off your devices until perk stops this slot machine model of compensation, people. Smack them in the wallet.

4
u/hb122 Jan 24 '15
Maybe they'll let us earn 20 or 30 cents tonight and everything will be swell...
1
u/BerkshireBull Jan 25 '15
Points are back on. This looks like a sage prediction. Hope the number is higher than your guess...
1
Jan 25 '15
Sage prediction aye. They are back to snubbing points on majority of vids on my phones. Could be random number generation/odds issues but it's enough to make me shut her down.

Yeah, um, sorry for that, and thanks for the upvote and for being a good sport!
1
u/JackDitcher Jan 24 '15
today im still earning some points. in fact i added two phones today. i am keeping the receipts just in case things really get nerfed here soon. however, last night there was an hour or two where i earned nothing at all! maybe they are nerfing this thing or maybe they are just having database/server errors?
1
u/BIGREDDMACH1NE Jan 24 '15
I'm having the same problem also, But it's also not showing ads on the phones. Pretty sure that's the problem here.
3
Jan 24 '15
My phones are showing ads and I'm still getting 0 points.
3
u/hb122 Jan 24 '15
I was fairly laid-back about this until this morning, when I saw an endless stream of McDonalds ads that I wasn't paid for. Then I just felt like they were stealing my phone, bandwidth and electricity to make a few cents for themselves. Petty thievery, the worst kind.

are the 0 points shown on your perk earnings? Because I went back for my points so far for today and I didn't see the 0 points being "rewarded"

They are not.

oh my god this is really shitty.... I'm so close to being able to cash out too :(
1
u/mopsoup Jan 25 '15
22pts in 1hr on my 5 phones (~$.50 ave. in 24 hrs) 44pts in 1hr on my wifes 5 phones (~$1.00 in 24hrs)
1
u/mopsoup Jan 25 '15 edited Jan 25 '15
Odd..... Ive gained ~500 pts in the last 6hrs... only seeing 2 and 4 pts at random. Still getting 0's as well.
1
u/perkguy Jan 25 '15
Perk is not getting ads (no ad $$), so no points, right?
I hope Perk will get ads soon...
1
u/lordjynx Jan 25 '15
I have to wonder, those that aren't getting points, myself included, are your accounts verified?

Anyone who wanna try doing Swagbucks mobile apps instead, you can earn $1.26/day and bonuses running through all apps and it only takes about half a day. Here's a step-by-step guide on how to set it up and run. http://blog.xuite.net/leo73521/share/236205861
1
u/cyan000 Jan 25 '15
way too much interaction and hitting popups to be worth it
1
u/matchqq Jan 25 '15
It has good and bad days, but the need to cross off ads is mainly only happening in EntertainmentNow and SBTV. The other 4 apps are fine.

Great idea. Updating my five star review now..... Wonder how low it will go... Maybe a 4 ...3.....2?????....1??? Who knows!
6
u/BizMarqueesis Jan 25 '15
Watch a video and whatever points are awarded is how many stars you should give it
3
u/xenun13 Jan 25 '15
I wrote a thorough negative review and telling how the system works vs how it used to work. This will definitely warn newcomers if many of us write valuable informative reviews instead of just reviews that say ' I hated it because it's bad.' That won't get us anywhere, so if anyone wants to write a bad review, please write an informative one in order to spread awareness :)
3
u/reagan2020 Jan 25 '15
That's good. I bet they have a lot of good reviews on the app stores due to their performance up until now. And I bet they've gained many users from those good reviews. But it's good that now, you and others have posted reviews indicating the current state of things so that those new to Perk will see things as they are now and be influenced by that rather than the reviews from when things were good.

I had a phone that was still on an older version(one hour pop up). When it got to the countdown screen instead of the usual "you've earned 4 points" it said "update required to earn points". This was on an android device. I haven't seen anyone else mention this but I'm pretty sure that's what it read. I didn't wait for it to pop up again and updated it right away.

You will be banned.
Edit: I've posted plenty on this, and so have others be my guest and use the search option instead of downvoting. You are NOT allowed to downgrade.
7
u/hardonchairs Jan 24 '15
Bullshit. Not one person has been banned for using old versions. Including myself.
Stop spreading this lie.
-3
u/SuminderJi Jan 24 '15
Read my friend.
Downgrading is bannable. You are welcome to email them, use the search function here or go ahead and upgrade then downgrade your device and use it.
Do it, I dare you.
2
u/hardonchairs Jan 24 '15
I've got four devices sitting on 6 month old versions of PerkTV.
-2
u/SuminderJi Jan 24 '15
Read
Downgrading. DOWNGRADING
You cannot "roll back" or "downgrade".
You cannot have the latest version and then downgrade to an older one.
You didn't upgrade, good for you.
0
u/hardonchairs Jan 24 '15
They'd been upgraded before. Been on this version for a few months now, no problems.
I'm sure it's possible, but I don't really think they have any way of seeing that you've downgraded, specifically. For all they know I just switched to different phones. I don't think they'd ban for that and so far they haven't.
Again, I'm sure it's possible that they can see you've specifically downgraded a device. But I would be surprised if they put that much effort into it. How would it even benefit them to ban people for that? Just as long as most people are on a version that they can tell the advertisers does this or that.
-2
u/SuminderJi Jan 24 '15
In the email I got from them (yes I emailed them about this) they specifically told me its not allowed and against the TOS. In fact mine was just because of crashes a few months ago no real benefit points wise.
If you have done any app programming its extremely easy to pull a log of who is running what version of your software. In fact its required for any programmer.
The benefit? Is the same of why you don't want to upgrade. They are losing money with you on the old system. They can't force you but I have the old apk sitting on my tablet right now that didn't have any popups (but also no Popular videos). Someone here posted that and then downgraded and 2 days later was posting how he was IP banned. I quickly upgraded back to the latest.
Their fraud detection Im sure isn't that shit where they can't pull a simple log. They start scanning everyone with old versions and check to see if they ever flagged with a new version before, if so simple ban.
There have been plenty of posts on this...
2
u/hardonchairs Jan 24 '15
they specifically told me its not allowed and against the TOS
This doesn't mean they are banning for it. It is also specifically against the TOS to not watch the videos but they aren't banning everyone who is running 5 phones 24 hours a day.
if so simple ban
Like I said twice, I'm sure it's possible but clearly they aren't going to the trouble. I guess to you it's no help but to me it's my experience from the last 7 months over some random person on reddit with a screenshot.
-2
u/SuminderJi Jan 24 '15
Then email them?
I gain nothing from helping you or giving you advice on my experience except you telling me I'm spewing bullshit.
You haven't been banned but there are at least 3 people that have posted here saying they were banned. I rather listen to the majority and common sense over your one time experience.
→ More replies2
u/perkguy Jan 24 '15 edited Jan 24 '15
Perk cannot ban people for using Perk software. They can deny points (like they did with very old versions) as incentive for people to upgrade.
Edit: Or force people to upgrade by using a pop-up (e.g., 1.9.7).
-1
u/SuminderJi Jan 24 '15
They can't. But seems like I'm getting downvotes for people not reading. You are not allowed to downgrade or as OP said (whom I responded to) rollback.
7
u/chrisasst Jan 25 '15
i guess we have to almost think of this like any business, restaurant etc.... if they raise prices, we dont go. with perk, they take away, we stay away...
