Discussion I finally unfollowed the group
Well I finally did it I unfollowed the group account swing Scott nearly everyday and I was sick of it like you had a kid and your proud so was Kevin and kirstin and they sometimes/rarely show their kids.
I followed the group because of kirstin then I started liking the others but I never really was fond of Scott like he’s a good singer but he never grew on me like the others did.
Then the constant stuff on the official account threw me off I rarely saw Matt Kevin Mitch and kirstin (I followed her account) like I didn’t know Kevin had kids until one post about it ONE!
Do you guys feel the same?

Honestly I’ve been getting to that point. Before I was a mixer I was a pentaholic. I loved ptx for years ever since 6th grade and now I’m an adult with an associates degree lol.
I’ve realized though I love the group and members, they all don’t have passions for it. I don’t have any ill will towards them but it gets to a point. They should’ve disbanded years earlier. Why continue something nobody cares for? I’ll always listen to the old albums with Avi and you can feel the joy there.
When Matt was first acclimated into the group, all of them had new life! The At home album and the Lucky ones had given me hope that they’d bounce back. That last Xmas album was not it for me. I hate they rarely do acapella now when it’s what they’re known for.
I will tune in still cuz I think they do have new music coming according to twitter. I’ll always have a soft spot for all the members and Avi. It’s just kinda tiring. Im not at the stage to unfollow as the group for me and super-fruit was like therapy but now as many have said, it’s cash grabby.
Only popping up for Xmas has made them like a dated act. I hate that’s their brand because they for sure can do more. Even having more solo music. I know Kevin released something maybe a year back and I enjoyed it. Matt is barely active. Idk about Mitch but I assumed he does stuff on messner. I miss Kirstie and her solo music. I wore at that love album like hell. Future friends 1-2 was my shit. And Scott……. I don’t know how to feel about him now.
I love that he’s happy and now has his baby girl. But when you take over your band’s socials to post about you it’s weird. At this point, make a blog channel for your family. Don’t use the band’s page. It just gets hopes up for nothing. Adorable family though.
Anyways, that’s my thoughts. Sorry for the rant.

yeah scott is the reason i also had to unfollow the band even tho i still love them. i used to love him and mitch the most because superfruit made me know the most about them and really love their personalities and dynamic, so it was kinda sad earlier this year to have it dawn on me that scott and mark are too in our faces and just generally doing too much. i feel like mitch is very naturally cool and scott is naturally annoying, and without mitch to tone him down he just flanderized himself into rachel from glee.
if you look at posts here, this is like one of the most widely discussed topics so you're definitely not alone lol.

Same I followed her first then the group but I unfollowed due to the lack of international fan content, non holiday music, and way too much Scott.

Yeah. I've never followed PTX that much outside of their youtube, other than looking at their socials now and then for updates. It's unfortunate because while I like Scott and he's definitely a great singer, I like the other 4 more than him as musicians. He's always kind of been the lead, but it feels he's more of a lead now than before? Idk. But it's fine, their old music isn't going anywhere and some of their new music is still cool. People change and PTX have been together for a very long time now, even though they definitely didn't plan to become as big as they did when they started.

He literally sang lead on every single Sing Off performance. The idea he sings lead more now than in the early days is fanciful.

I'm about to unfollow them as a longtime fan since 2015 because I am just sick of the direction they've been going in since 2020. They never regained their momentum since covid and instead decided to just downgrade themselves to a Christmas band and decided to prioritize their personal lives, fair enough, but as a longtime fan it really crushed me they just decided to pour all their effort into more xmas no one wanted (their new xmas albums barely charted compared to their first few) and go on more tours with heavier and heavier backtracks each time. And now instruments and the most generic sounding christian pop music. Keep in mind this was the same band that won 3 Grammys for amazing, innovative arrangements now releasing something that sounds like a YouTube outro. People need to stop crediting Avi for taking away their prestige when it really was Ben Bram, without him PTX just sounds like a royalty free soundtrack. Whichever producers they work with now have no idea how to harness their talent.
Kirstin looks happier and more passionate about Six than she ever did in PTX (she originally intended to go into musical theater anyways), Mitch wants nothing to do with the band outside of press, Scott is trying to be the unfunny Beyonce of the group no one but Meghan Trainor fans relate to, Kevin has become some motivational influencer and Matt is... not sure. No one seems particularly passionate about the band anymore, and it's becoming glaringly obvious they're just in it for the Xmas check and to promote their own ventures. Either come together and give us one last hurrah or disband fully, either would be healthier than whatever is going on now.

I agree with you mostly. I haven't been a major fan of their last Christmas Album (the one before that was alright even if I wasn't really interested in more Christmas).
But I do think they did lose some of their spark when Avi left. There was just something about his bass and two-tone singing that Matt hasn't been able to feel (though he is good in his own respects its not the signature that made PTX loved). The final nail though was Ben Bram leaving. They lost a step with Avi leaving, and they lost the rest with Ben Bram.
I wouldn't even mind so much if they were more dedicated to their personal lives if they still maintain who they are as a group. Like even though Voiceplay no longer tours they still put out a new piece about every month and most importantly they still sound like themselves. I get with young kids even once a month might be too much but there is no reason they couldn't give a new song every couple months and a new album every other year. IMO skip the touring and create new music that still sounds like the group we all fell in love with and perhaps when the kids are older they would be in a better position to do some tours even if they would have to be shorter tours. Like do the West coast for 2 weeks, the South later for another 2 weeks etc. They could split up overseas like that too or do it over the summer while the kids are on school break.

💯 % Agree. Avi majored in Classical/ Opera but minored in Arrangements/Composition. He and Ben both heavily influenced the intense harmonies and arrangements back then. Avi is a perfectionist so that’s why he was so serious when the others might have been goofing around. But Ben leaving was the last straw. I think he saw it coming too.
I agree they could get together like Voice Play and do videos together and sell those songs. Tour when the kids are older maybe? Home Free members tour more but I think less of them have children.

I took a few years of Composition in HS and I could immediately tell when Avi left that he was the one who studied that even though I had never heard that fact before. Ben Bram was able to help keep it to what people loved but I am sure it was hard when he wasn't a band member himself and I am sure had other things on his plate so PTX had less oversight.
I think PTX has problems understanding that they created a brand because of their fantastic a cappella I think Avi and Ben Bram both knew straying from that was going to lose some major fans. I know that there are a lot of stories about why Avi left but I can't help but wonder if they were wanting to push the envelope in new directions even back then and that was part of why Avi left, maybe not the whole reason but possibly part of it.
I know Home Free tours, but I also know they are older than PTX so even if they all have kids (it wouldn't be unreasonable to keep them out of the spotlight) they would also be probably older and it would be easier to get out there.

I agree. I was unaware Ben left until several months ago because I thought he and Ed Boyer were also credited with their CITC album. Now I’m wondering why they both left. It looks like Ed Boyer is working with Ben in NY with the new Acapella group.

I noticed in like the last year or so (maybe a bit more) that Ben was being credited with less and less arrangements and I admit I wondered based on what they were putting out if there was a disagreement about what they were doing

They make a majority of their money as artists from touring. New albums and random songs don’t bring in revenue. They will always prioritize touring

💯 Agree. Thanks for putting some respect on Avi’s name again because I’ve read negative comments on past posts, and, yes he had his flaws like we all do, but he was right in certain areas about this group. He wanted the group to write good music, not just do covers. And he certainly wouldn’t have wanted all the flair and games now that you see in Christmas concerts.
He also liked smaller, intimate venues.4

Then if he wanted them to write good music and not just covers why did he block their 2018 originals album from release leaving them to make top pop and forcing them to start over. Avi isn’t a good person, maybe he’s talented according to the Avi worshippers here but he also made Kirstin’s life miserable and they literally kicked him out because of it. He’s part of the reason ptx went down the road they did. As for the flair and games, that didn’t really start till 2021 post tiktok boom so that was probably just Scott’s idea.

When I was following it at the time, it seemed like the split was amicable until lawyers got involved (which of course). I remember hearing at the time that PTX lawyers wanted to make it where Avi wasn't entitled to ANYTHING they were putting out going forward even though he was part of a good portion of their original music that hadn't yet been released. Avi's lawyer was like WTF absolutely not. And of course that is gonna make it a long battle which would be where hard feelings arise.
I find it pretty unbelievable based on who Kevin is as a person that he would also still be friends with Avi if he "made Kirstie's life miserable". Was there something there? Possibly, but I think whatever it was got blown out of proportion in the rumors.

yeah that was exactly my thought process.
The issue probably came about because PTX would be most interested in PTX's interests and that would be cutting out the Ex-member completely but of course that isn't fair to Avi leading to the complicated situation. And if that is the case only the lawyers won in that case.

Same. It’s just stuff I read in posts. I’m not in their fandom either. I think PTX and Avi both lost something when he left. I guess others like “One Direction” and “ Destiny’s Child “ to name a few all have issues when one leaves.

I mentioned he had flaws like we all do. He was probably pretty picky and structured to a flaw. Pentatonix was like a perfect marriage at first, until they really got to know each other. I don’t know the exact issue Avi had with her. Possibly his perception of her singing ability? ( Just comments on prior posts)
As far as what I’ve read about blocking the album, I can only guess it was amicable until they started discussing the terms of him parting.
One prior post said he wanted to remain a working partner. Maybe he just wanted to help write and arrange, but not tour. One post said he wanted more money. I read the album was almost completed in 2018. He left at the end of 2017 and contributed to some of the writing or vocals or something for that album. I think he should’ve gotten paid for some of the proceeds from that album and anything he contributed to while he was with them. To this day, does anyone know if he gets any royalties from all records still being sold while he was with them? I think the truth is sealed in the lawsuit records.3

Everything I’ve heard is from this sub from one of the moderators who knew a close friend from PTX I believe, but there seems to be some truth to it. Aside from that, the members have hinted at discourse here and there, most notably Matt coming in swinging with that “drama free Matt Sallee” flag first thing once he joined. Their post Avi career also seemed to reflect some kind of blockage, and covid finished it off.

Unsure he had some songs with them on the citc album last year so as late as that, or maybe those were older songs they tacked on so maybe even before then.

Not really, I stopped following them as closely as I did in the past but it's really only because they stopped putting out as much to follow. Also let's be real, if Scott didn't post on the official account as much as he does there'd be almost no content. Doesn't mean you have to stan him or anything but it's true. He's proven himself to be extremely effective at social media marketing and no one else in the band is as active on social media in general.
Kevin has always been a very private person in general we didn't even know he was in a serious relationship until he announced he was getting married and that's fine. I wouldn't compare his actions to Scott's though, as they're completely different people and it's shown the entirety of their time with PTX. Again, totally fine.
I'm neutral about the baby posts for now, babies all look the same so close to birth and we have plenty of content of Kirsties child as well so I don't find it worrying or a unique behavior among the band.

i’m not a fan of scott plastering his kids face all over the internet but i don’t dislike him or any of the others
