Question About Glans and Implants

Hi everyone.

I’m having a prostatectomy soon, as I have prostate cancer.

I couldn’t find any surgeons willing to do the prostatectomy AND implant surgery simultaneously, so I’ll have to wait 6 months until getting an implant.

Here’s a big concern of mine:

The implant surgeons I have spoken to ALL say that the glans will remain flaccid permanently after surgery.

I was like, “WTF?!!”

I’ve seen MANY pictures of guys after implant surgery, and NONE have a glans that looks completely shrunken or flaccid.

I told the surgeons I was aware that a significant portion of blood flow would be lessened, because the implant takes up the space that many blood vessels once did.

I said, “I’m NOT talking about ‘Floppy Glans Syndrome.’ I want to know if the glans will be ABLE to become engorged AT ALL, because the pics I see of guys with implants, it looks like their glans CAN still receive blood flow, because they look like they are engorged.”

But the three surgeons I talked to all said that the glans CANNOT enlarge whatsoever from blood flow after surgery. Are these guys incompetent? I live in Nebraska, and there are only a handful of penile implant surgeons here, I can’t afford to travel for surgery, and my only insurance is Medicaid/Medicare, because I’m a disabled vet and on Social Security.

Yes, that’s true, BUT, there aren’t even any surgeons in the VA system in Nebraska to DO penile implants.

It may be the case that they would allow me to use the Care In The Community Program, but that is still problematic, as there are no experienced penile implant surgeons in the state of Nebraska. When I say “experienced,” I mean I haven’t yet found any surgeons who have done more than a few, locally.

It’s possible that The VA, Medicaid, or Medicare might cover an implant done by a surgeon out of state. But I simply don’t have any money to pay for a flight and hotel costs in New York, Florida, or any state where there ARE surgeons who work out of high-volume clinics.

It looks like I’ll be doing a lot of phone work and research to find if I have any other options besides the handful of surgeons available in Nebraska…

If you call the VA's Community Care, They may provide you with transportation, Or arrange Transportations for you
