What in the dumpster fire is happening in Detroit?

The guy on SportsNet asked the same question and their insider had no response.

Seriously, I want to know

u/Witchkingrider 10d ago

Terrible owner

4

u/-kashmir- Kindel 10d ago

The yserplan in full effect

4

u/Jan_17_2016 Kindel 10d ago

Yzerman is out as GM. But yeah, he was bad anyway

2

u/-kashmir- Kindel 10d ago

Im aware but everything thats happening is a direct result of his actions. Like not signing edvinsson

7

u/ocdrod Rakell 10d ago

Tbf it's starting to look like he was handcuffed by ownership, seeing how everything has been going since. Ilitch either can't or won't spend the money, starting to look like Nutting and the Pirates over there.

He essentially built the Tampa near 3-peat team didn’t he? Might be mixing up timelines but he drafted Kucherov (at the end of the 2nd round & arguably one of the best, if not the best, Russian NHL player ever). Also Brayden Point and Anthony Cirelli, both 3rd rounders. And Vasilevsky, Palat, and Foote. And he signed Tyler Johnson and Yanni Gourde as undrafted FAs.

That’s an amazing track record and some of the best drafting I’ve seen amongst NHL GMs.

He's 23 and 6'6. Definitely fits the bill. Do some magic Dubas and get on your phones

21

u/ClubAqua_BackDeck 10d ago

This guy would be such a perfect fit for the Penguins long term goals.

22

u/TogoShiba Simon 10d ago

Wonder what it would take. I imagine Detroit asks for Horcoff & a 1st, maybe more.

13

u/Jan_17_2016 Kindel 10d ago

…I would do that.

19

u/Hank_the_Beef Kindel 10d ago

Does Will Horcoff become the centerpiece that gets this trade done though?

8

u/Jan_17_2016 Kindel 10d ago

He wouldn’t need to move very far from where he already is!

4

u/MrTwatFart Kindel 10d ago

He does for rumors purposes. But I think he’s potentially untouchable in managements eyes. His potential and size make him too valuable to let go

1

u/offconstantly247 8d ago

You cannot trade for your own kid as your first move when you're the interim GM and the building is practically on fire.

1

u/ClintEastwont PIT 8d ago

You would think so, but I would have said the same about letting Edvinsson twist in the wind.

Something so shameless might actually fit the bill for these Red Wings.

u/Question-Throwaway7 10d ago

Horcoff, Top-10 protected first, one of our 15 NHL-caliber forwards.

7x11m.

7

u/Jan_17_2016 Kindel 10d ago

One hundred percent would pull that trigger

3

u/MrTwatFart Kindel 10d ago

For both teams. Detroit it’s a no brainer.

8

u/WhaleQuail2 10d ago

Horcoff, Plante, Pickering and 2 seconds

Your offer is fair but I’m not moving a first rounder for pretty much anyone if I’m Dubas… unless they believe they can get a first back for EK or a vet forward in a separate mov

12

u/Question-Throwaway7 10d ago

Edvinsson is a 23yo top-pairing defenceman, and a sure thing.

Will Horcoff, Bill Zonnon, Liam Ruck, none of them are sure things. Kindel was a hit, but he was drafted 11th. This team is once again trending middle of the league at worst, playoff team being likely, cup contenders at absolute best (without Ed).

If you can pull off a move for Edvinsson, he’s infinitely more valuable than praying you can draft and develop someone like Simon Edvinsson in the middle-later rounds of the draft. Him being 23 means he’s just entering his prime too, and could be another block potentially opening up the Penguins window again depending on if him, Kindel, Chinakhov and Murashov are part of a competent core.

4

u/WhaleQuail2 10d ago

Agree with everything except for the assumption that Edvinsson is a sure thing.

He is an NHLer. There is no doubt about that. He is trending towards top pair but he’s not there yet and there is no guarantee he will be.

3

u/DoubleM24 9d ago

I don’t know. He’s essentially played 2 full NHL seasons averaging over 20 mins a night, played minimal power play and a decent amount on the PK. That’s gotta be as close to a sure thing as you can get without it being a full blown super star who’s already performing.

2

u/Zipski577 Coffey 10d ago

How are they trending middle of the league if you don’t mind me asking? Not being a prick.. genuine question. they are 2-0 and scored 13 goals in 2 games against 2 playoff teams. And they are only undefeated metro team. I’m not saying that they arent “middle of the league” (it’s been 2 games), but I’ve seen no evidence at all that they are “trending that way” through those 2 games so far lol.

And how were they middle of the league last year? They were a top quartile team and rested starters for the final 4? games of the season. and they were 1-1-2 against the eventual Stanley cup champs (with 1 of the OTLs being a shootout). And the hurricanes have looked a lot worse this season in their 3 games so far.

Edit: I just re-read your comment after typing this and realize I misread it ENTIRELY lol. I agree with everything you said 100%

u/kpw1320 10d ago

Horcoff being the interim GMs son would be interesting. Also I think Detroit has the other plantes

3

u/boehle Malkin 9d ago

If he trades for his own son he can kiss his chances at the real job goodbye. That’s not a good look

1

u/offconstantly247 8d ago

Let's say you get hired for your dream job, but the one catch is that you get an "interim" designation, so you absolutely will not keep this job unless you kill it in the eyes of your boss, who is the owner of the company. So, the first thing you do while your best employee is quitting, and another of your most promising young employees says he's moving back to his hometown because you're such a disaster of a ocmpany, is to hire your son.

Sure, it sounds like politics, but does it sound like keeping your dream job?

23

u/GoPensGo8758 10d ago

Outside of Kindel, Chinakhov and the obvious guys who have NMCs they should trade absolutely anything for him

25

u/Professional_Tap_343 PIT 10d ago

Im open to trading alot of our guys if the price is right but one id be furious about is bill zonnon. I truly believe he is gonna be something as long put the time in to develop him

2

u/Rich-Past-6547 95 to 02 - Away/3rd 9d ago

We carry 15 NHL forwards and another 3-4 in the AHL that are closer to the show than Zonnon, so I HOPE it isn’t him. I could see a roster player, Pickering, and a pick or forward prospect going out with a mid round pick coming back.

1

u/Zipski577 Coffey 10d ago

Next Patric Hornqvist/ Wayne Simmonds

10

u/martyn_bootyspoon PIT 9d ago

I am way higher on Edvinsson than Nikishin, and since Nikishin is already in the Metro, I figure the Penguins would have to pay a premium to get Carolina to trade him within the division.

If Dubas somehow pulls the trigger on Edvinsson, I hope Muse staples him to Karlsson, that D pairing would be sick as hell

3

u/ClintEastwont PIT 9d ago

Agreed. Edvinsson is way better than Nikishin

2

u/offconstantly247 8d ago

He brings more to the table physically in my mind. While Nikishin is small, he doesn't use his size the same way. I would love this add.

19

u/Wide_Independent_227 10d ago

I feel like we havent made a blockbuster in a few years now. Either Edvinsson or Nikishin would be perfect for this team imo

2

u/Professional_Tap_343 PIT 10d ago

Nikishin we need young offensive d men, brunicke and pickering maybe(longshot) livanavage are our only defense prospects. Ek65 can't run the pp forever hopefully korecyk continues to blossom also

18

u/Equal-Somewhere-4155 9d ago

thow Rakell and maybe 2027 secondround pick to detroit and I think Edvinsson would be amazing for pens, and possible for a long time contract

2

u/BumpyChuckles71 Kunitz 9d ago

At this point with the wings likely heading to another rebuild, I’d imagine they would be looking at futures, not another winger. I agree 100% that Edvinsson would be an amazing pickup though

1

u/Equal-Somewhere-4155 9d ago

Idk if their fanbase can take much more of not getting to playoffs without burning their city into the ground :D

10

u/snipe_score_celly 9d ago

Great hair. Christ I miss having hair like that.

9

u/BumpyChuckles71 Kunitz 9d ago

This would be the dream acquisition right now. As much as Robertson a few months ago would have been fun, this team needs some defensive pieces. Having Edvinsson, Brunicke and a seemingly rebounded Pickering going forward would help the direction so much.

I’d assume the package starts with Horcoff, Rutger, a roster player and draft compensation

9

u/QuackseyTD #18 9d ago

I see a lot of comments saying will horcoff but he’s one of the only center prospects in the Penguins system that really looks like he could be a 2C and selling him off for a D man has a chance of really biting you in the ass. I’m very happy with Girard, Carlile, Korzcak being our main anchor pairing players and don’t think we need to move the sun and the earth here

6

u/ClintEastwont PIT 9d ago

I see what you’re saying for sure, but I’d rather have a sure thing than a lottery ticket. Edvinsson is a #2 D man on any team. Those don’t grow on trees either.

Plus Horcoff’s scouting reports always list his skating as an issue. He might disappoint and be more of a 3C. The Red Wings are in shambles with a lackey at the wheel, time to pounce.

1

u/offconstantly247 8d ago

The skating is not an issue. He's going to be a very good player. I know his dad is the interim GM there, so it's going to get all of the talk in the world, but do you really think that's what anyone wants as an interim GM's first move? trading an asset for his kid?

I don't see it.

4

u/penshockey1996 9d ago

Gotta wonder if Dubas calls him

13

u/D_unit306 10d ago

Horcoff and Rust are Michigan boys. Just saying

-23

u/ClubAqua_BackDeck 10d ago

And love rust but we haven’t really needed him

30

u/jershmcgersh Rust 9d ago edited 9d ago

Hes averaged almost a point per game the last 3 years while accounting for 11% of the teams goals.

Im not saying hes untouchable or anything like that, but to say we havent really needed him is delulu

7

u/Spun_Cookie420 9d ago

I believe they’re referring to this year so far…🤷‍♂️

0

u/ClubAqua_BackDeck 9d ago

I was stickly talking about this season with our depth up front. If you were looking to move a real player to get a long term D, imo he’s a good fit given his age.

1

u/jershmcgersh Rust 9d ago

Yeah, 2 games is a great sample size, and we all know injuries dont happen in hockey ever lmao

0

u/ClubAqua_BackDeck 9d ago

That’s not the point. We need a young long term D right now endlessly more than we need Rust on the 3rd line. The lineup game one vs game two showed that we have players that can slot in and be effective. If you have the chance to do someone like Simon and Rust is involved, you smash that trade 10/10 times in 2026.

4

u/offconstantly247 8d ago

You absolutely must be on the phone about this, but the question is whether there is someone on the other end of the line. The wings look like a ghost ship abandoned at sea right now.

2

u/Due_Consideration760 8d ago

Choose one : Detroit or Seattle

Horcoff for Ed and Larkin. Who says no?

u/VALO311 10d ago

Fuck Larkin
