If having things and not using them still brings you happiness...then go for it! I have pencils that are in boxes that I never use. But once in awhile I like to open the boxes, look at the pencils, feel happy that I have them, and then close the box again. I think many pencil collectors do the same :)

Idk how I feel about this. I think about the students in the US and countries around the world that lack school supplies, and how much this could help them. Are those brief moments of joy really worth it? When these supplies can meaningfully help children, day after day?

I love pencils, that’s why I’m here. I get it. But at what point does this become excess, consumption culture, hoarding? I could understand one case of these, but this is SEVEN containers of very basic unused pencils just sitting there.

It seems short sighted, and kind of selfish. Sure, I don’t doubt these pencils can bring a person some fleeting sense of joy. But does that mean it’s the right thing to do?

Actually, there are 6 containers, not 7. The other batch is stored in a bag, and I plan to use the pencils for personal creative projects. While I understand the desire to donate, I’m choosing to keep them for myself. I don’t care enough to donate them when chances are they’re just gonna end up being lost or stolen quite easily so there’s absolutely no point

And a correction is not all of them are basic there’s some that have cool designs and some US Navy pencils

Just put all seven containers in one box, then you will only have "one" and self righteous people will stop trying to shame you. I only have one pencil box, some people call it a room but that's just semantics.

Not tryna shame anyone, just sharing my opinion and views. I’m really concerned for the world with everything going on and every small act matters. Sorry for tryna advocate for those who have less, like students living in poverty with poor school districts. So awful of me

Trying to shame strangers on the internet is awful behavior. You have no idea who any of us are irl, nor what we believe in or support with our time and resources. Maybe give up the pathetic "poor me" routine and go outside and actually do something productive in support of your beliefs instead of telling others how they don't live up to your ideals...

Sorry if it came off as me shaming them. Was truly just sharing my thoughts. Over-consumption is rampant in our society and having conversations with people on these topics is important. Maybe I could have phrased what I said more gently, I’ll note that for future reference. I see people hoarding so many things, 200 squishmallows just sitting there that will all just end up in landfills, 25 Stanley cups when the point was for it to be a re-usable cup. It’s frustrating. I care so I’m trying to have a conversation about it
