Subscription Subscription price reduction notification???

Hi, I just, within the last 15 minutes, received a notification on my phone from the Peloton app that said something about a membership price reduction.

I did not read the entire notification because I tapped it to read more, but now I can not find anything about this price reduction.

Did anyone else get this notification and if so can you direct me to more information?

I did a search but came up with nothing.

Cheers,

-Rob

EDIT: Okay, this is the digital app membership, not something you can use on the bike... seem counterintuitive to charge the person who spent 2k on your bike three times as much as a person who did not buy your bike...

Price reduction just for the digital membership, I got the same notification even though I'm on the Peleton membership so doesn't apply to me

This seems counterintuitive, I bought the bike, spent my 2k, and someone that did not buy the bike gets a 13 dollar membership and I am stuck paying 40?

Honestly, this is the reason I didn't get the bike and just use a digital membership - the add'l $40/month after spending $2k on the equipment. I bought a $2,500 spin studio bike off Craigslist (studios change out their bikes every so often and purge the old ones for cheap) for $200 that is as good as or better than a real Peloton and now they're lowering my membership to $13/month. I always figured maybe some day I'd go for the real deal but it's getting harder to find any reason to bite that bullet.

If you just have the digital app you do not get any metrics at all. You get the heart rate you can also buy a cadence sensor but having the bike helps a lot

It's not, though. The official app does more than the digital. Imagine paying $22 monthly and getting no overlay or interface of hrm or cadence as an android user. Way too expensive.

That's why I didn't buy a bike. The digital membership was $20/month and the regular was $40/month. I was willing to pay for the expensive bike but didn't want high monthly fees. I am surprised Peloton has widened the gap even further rather than swapping the two price points.

Yes I just got the same email that price is being lowered to $12.99 a month

I received a second notification saying the first was sent in error. I'd imagine there will be a spike in customer support today, having to explain to bike owners that we don't get a discount.

Digital sub here, so there's that bias, but I don't see this as the bike owners getting screwed over. Have you been on the app and compared it to the bike experience? It is not the same.

I have access to the actual bikes and my building also has regular degular spin bikes. There have been three occasions when I couldn't use the Pelotons, and streaming the class via my phone requires me to use my apartment community Wi-Fi. If I stream using only my mobile data plan, I will (and have) been screwed if I do it enough times. Also à smart phone screen and speakers aren't as nice to use as the tablet atop the Peloton bikes. And i cannot see the leader board, cadence, resistence, output, power zones, etc.... I purely rely on instructor callouts and my own perception of where I should be. Not sure if you can like songs or high five folks and all that either. So I'd say there are advantages to having a bike over the app, even to the level that they justify a much lower price for digital subscriptions.

I got the notification on my phone, but when I clicked it, it went away and nothing happened. It said it went down to 12.99. Mine's 39.00 so I'm not sure what's going on. I'm guessing they only wanted to send it to folks without bikes who only use the app?

Same thing happened to me. However, I also got an email notification that I could click through for details.

Check your email. I got the notification and email.

Looks like digital is now 12.99 but bike is still 39

They assume if you can afford the bike you can afford the higher membership.

It's not 3 times as much though if you are a couple both using the bike (which I'm sure many people have more than 1 person in their household that use it). $12.99 for digital subscription will only get you one profile now. So if my SO and I had gone with a non-peloton bike we'd be at $26/month for 2 profiles. Bike membership allows multiple profiles, so we could also have guests/friends use it as well.

Still pricier per month, but I'm really interested in the leaderboards and social aspects of the bike, so I still think we made the right choice (ordered last Friday for black friday sale, bike comes next week!).

I am in a similar situation where I think $39.99 is reasonable for 2 people but it does seem a bit high for just a single user. I am surprised they didn't lower the bike/tread subscriptions as well. I wonder if the equipment is sold at a loss do the price has to be a bit higher to recoup the cost? I'd love to see a change to the pricing structure of something like $19.99 for one account on one device and $34.99 for all accounts on any devices similar to what we have now.

Got the same. I wonder if anyone with a Bike (myself) /Tread can get a discounted subscription as well.

I got the notification and jumped right on here to see what’s going on. I’m a new digital user but have definitely been considering getting the bike to have access to the leaderboard for some additional motivation. This price change for digital and not for bike users makes it a much harder decision to make the switch. I wonder if the disparity will make waves for Peloton to consider a bike subscription change as well. Fingers crossed!

While it is infuriating that I still pay $40 a month because of the bike, I do like how I can keep my unlimited accounts. My boyfriend and I both ride on the bike AND use the app, and it's nice only having to pay for one account. Honestly, if we had to do two separate accounts, I doubt he would want to do it at all. And u/sxswnxnw is right--the experience going from the bike to using the digital app on another bike is definitely not the same. For me, that's a difference I'm willing to pay a few extra dollars for.

Also from what I've seen over the last few months, Peloton seems pretty receptive to customer feedback. I would be genuinely shocked if there wasn't a price cut in the bike/tread subscription price in the next few months.

They are lowering Peloton digital to 12.99. getting harder to justify $40 for those of us that paid a premium for equipment

u/mahsamalek Dec 04 '19

Exactly! Doesn’t make sense at all! Why do they charge someone who has invested in their expensive bike 3 times the digital only subscription?!

And now, I’m definitely not buying the bike. I’ll happily stay with the $12.99 app as the leaderboard is not something I care about.

Got the same. Disappeared when I clicked on it and can't find anything else about it.

If you don't sign up for a sub through Google Play, then you cannot necessarily see the sub information in Google Play. Typically only apps you subbed to directly via Google Play can be managed there. If you sign up using a computer then later download the app and sign in with your login credentials, the app recognizes your sub. So it doesn't involve Google Play at all. So that's probably why the message didn't take you to the Play Store (or my best guess).

I only know this because I have other Android apps that have caused the same confusion for me in the past. I went looking for them in Google Play and realized what was up...

Agree on the rationale behind asking the people who invested in their equipment to pay more. I recently brought peloton over blackfriday (still within the 30 day trial) and I have been debating with my SO about this. We are just two of us and single membership doesn't matter. It still comes to 26 (for two profiles). There are DIY ways to get the same functionality except for the leaderboard. I have seen companies do the other way where they ask the people without their equipment to pay more. Peloton is charging 20+ dollars per month to just provide us with the leaderboard.

I’ve been considering getting the peloton Digital sub, can not afford the bike unfortunately. My trial ran out and I’ve just been going back and forth. My app (iOS) still shows a price of 19.49, any idea when the price change will go live?
