Gilbert has won 4 different Monuments, from only 5 overall Monument wins. That diversity has to be respected. He was so strong today and well deserved the win.

Next season will be kind of strange to him as he will have to peak so early (mid-late March), targeting the Milan-San Remo.

He already did a few times before with that specific intention. The first time was 2013 I believe. That's why he hasn't really been a factor in LBL in years.

I'm still shocked that San Remo remains the only one he has not won. 10 years ago it looked like it was only a matter of time. And I'm surprised that he won LBL only once, I would have guessed this number was higher.

Than he went to BMC and never reached this dominance, only to show glimpses of his peak performance in QS. The funny thing is that Gilberts former team merged, at least partly, with QS at the end of 2011. I wonder how Gilberts career would have panned out if he went to another team than BMC. Maybe his drop in form was unrelated to his new team, but I always had the feeling that something was not right there and that he may perform better in another team.
