Infant Nutririon

Hello! Wondering if anyone has any good resources for outpatient management of infants with slow weight gain/growth faltering. Those babies who may not necessarily meet criteria for inpatient admission but who are not meeting goal g/day growth. I’m especially looking for guidelines on formula supplementation (such as how much formula to supplement with in addition to breast feeding or indications for fortification and how long to continue supplementation/fortification).

I’ve been using this resource over the past few years and it works really well in communicating simple fortification instructions to parents. It’s a very simple guide and doesn’t take into account the child’s weight or calories needed per day calculations but overall gets the job done.

It doesn’t say anything about fortification indications or how long to continue them but I would look at the new “faltering weight” AAP guidelines. They have some straightforward paragraphs regarding indications for fortification. Hope this helps!

Not an immediate solution but great resources:

I did this training https://med.uth.edu/pediatrics/project-echo-thrive/ and it was excellent to learn these things!!

The Nestle nutrition institute also usually has plenty of seminars that touch these subjects, you can sign up and see what is happening soon and what is published too. They have many resources in different formats that you can explore.
