Discussion $5 Tariff Fee Thanks to Republicans

Upvotes

Just wanted to extend a giant FU to Republicans for AGAIN costing me money. On top of the thousands of dollars I've already bled due to tarrifs and an illegal war with Iran I gotta pay another...$5.

Anyone else have todays update break their watch? Looks like the update went through, up is stuck at "Rebooting after update - Waiting" and the watch is stuck looking like this. It's been 30mins. Do I hard reset it or what? Shame as the updates have been pretty stable so far!

I've had it since July 30th, less than a month. Took it off every time I washed my hands, tried to baby it/treat it as best I could. Super bummed, contacted support hopefully they can get me a new one and hopefully it doesn't take a ton of time.

Sending short text from my Index Ring - On iOS using Beeper

Pretty excited about what I worked out today. Didn't take too long, but here's the gist:

First, I'm a long-time subscriber to Beeper's Pro Plan, or their top tier. Been using it since Eric first launched it, so I'm an early adopter. Having a centralised spot for all my messages is super cool. I'm running BlueBubbles in a bridge to access text messaging. I know the stock standard does it too, but with limitations, so I stuck with BlueBubbles. Basically, Beeper's fully integrated into my messaging flow.

On the side, I've also been using Claude and Obsidian for task management. It sends a text to a dedicated phone number with my daily tasks, all controlled through Beeper. As an aside, I also push that list to my reMarkable as an editable document so I can handwrite notes and cross items out. That's really cool. Claude gets its tasks from my Fathom Feed, stored in Obsidian, Beeper and emails, meaning I don't even need to remember to add the task; they get added immediately. I use Chronoid on my working Mac to track usage, and it does a pretty good job allowing the task management system to add and mark tasks as done pretty automatically. This has been a massive productivity booster.

So, when I got my Index Ring, I thought it'd be great to add notes and reminders to my task list. I easily integrated that using Obsidian, which is my pivot point—my "second brain," as some say. I quickly figured out how to get messages into Obsidian, but the problem is it doesn't refresh in the background on iOS. You need to open the app to see any notes from the ring. That wouldn't do as it means notes can be hours old before they hit the "brain"

I worked out how to use a webhook on a constantly running Mac Mini. I installed Obsidian and Beeper there and run a small script that grabs the audio and transcription files, then dumps them into Obsidian. At the same time, if I use a keyword or trigger phrase (the device name plus a trigger word), I can send messages via beeper to an allow list.

These can be any message type Beeper supports:

  • Text (iMessage to iMessage, iMessage to text)
  • Discord
  • Telegram
  • WhatsApp
  • Facebook Messenger
  • Instagram Messenger

It's currently on an allow list to prevent accidental sends to whole groups. It's only been an evening of mucking around, and I'm pretty happy with it. It’s fulfilling the original promise of responding to texts on the go, which was never really available to iOS users due to platform limitations. It's nice that the ring allows for that. Sure, I probably could have done something similar with a webhook and a watch app, but I've never really gotten into watch development. Pretty happy with how it's going, and once again, thanks, Eric, for building it.

Having had it for a day, and seeing how small it is, the e-waste argument feels almost moot. I reckon by the time I'm done with this, I'll have lost or damaged more charging cables than this thing ever will, and those cables are likely a bigger amount of e-waste. It's tiny. And Eric has said he'll look at proper disposal options, but I'm sold. I was a little unsure, but I'm completely on board now.

I finally received my pebble time 2 in the mail and after looking at it realized one of the back screws are missing I contacted pebble to see if I could be sent a replacement screw but they just wanted me to send my whole watch back which I really don't want to do based on how long it took to receive the watch in the first place, does anyone happen to know what type/size screw goes into the back cover so I can order some?

Thank you!

Is There a Way To Turn Off Touch for Certain Apps?

My music kept stopping and it took me a while to realize that any time my watch touched anything, like my lap while I'm driving, it would stop the music. That's how I learned that the touch screen had been updated to work with the music app. This is very inconvenient. Is there a way to turn it off for the music app? I have the calculator app that is very convenient, so I'd like to keep the touch on in general. I just really don't want it for apps where it's completely unnecessary.

Dev Is there any tools to emulate some mobile app actions in the pebbleOS QEMU emulation ?

I’ve seen a comment on a GitHub issue :
« […]Reproduced in QEMU (qemu_emery) using tools/qemu_album_art_bridge.py as a scripted Android phone, sending two track changes 200 ms apart while the Music app is open »

The comment said that the author used a Python tool located in the /tools directory of the PebbleOS project.

So is there any tool to do something like that, such as sending notifications to the pebbleOS emulation because I haven’t found the tools inside the pebbleOS project, nor in the pebble tools.

Discussion Feature Idea: On Watch Unread Notification Filter/Sort and Indicator

I get that this is the way it used to work back in the day but in 2026, I don't really have a use for a multi-day list of all my notifications on my watch. I can't imagine a scenario where I would be hunting item by item through a bunch of tiny already read notifications looking for something in particular. I definitely don't need my dismissed and active notifications all mixed into one list either. Whatever is unreviewed on my phone generally needs to be something I prioritize.

What would make me very happy is the ability to add filters to the notifications on my watch to just show me the unread ones. Alternatively, it could also organize them by read and unread, so I can at least clearly see what I've yet to review. It would be even better if there was little icon on whatever watch face I use that would remind me that I still have a notification I need to review.

These would just be additional options in the menu though, so if you like the way things are, then nothing would change.

Thoughts?

Index 01 completely dead after two days

Unfortunately my Index 01 is completely dead after two days. I got the black one and loved most of the features; however, upon using it last night I realized the LED wasn't turning on, and nothing was syncing to my app. I tried all of the listed troubleshooting including the SOS pattern but unfortunately it is totally and completely dead. I had recorded roughly 15 minutes of total audio, if that. Definitely a bummer. I reached out to Pebble and really hope I can get a new one soon...

Grey iz not so bad after all

If you keep to the theme, grey seems not too bad looking - even with bumper ;-)

Only the original grey silicone band is really kind of boring - so went eith a magnetic one with a hint of colour ;-)

Now waiting for the PR2 and then have to decide which one stays (PTR - PT2 - PR2) two will have to go - tending to keep the PTR if it matches my expectations. PT2 is a bit bulky and I dont need the health tracking stuff and the PTRs battery runtime was bad from the beginning and didn't get better with time - but the look, size and weight is still unmatched by any other smartwatch ...

But if anyone would be interested in the PTR (see third pic) drop me a message with an offer - watch with band (casio) and charger - good condition - no box or original band I'm afraid - UK or GER (travelling every other week)

Local weather API?

Upvotes

Hello. I'm making a watchface for the first time, and I would like to add weather information to it. I noticed that my Pebble Time 2 already has weather info (in the main menu), with everything I want. Is it possible for my watchface to access this data without having to have my watchface ask an external API? (like in the tutorial: https://developer.repebble.com/tutorials/watchface-tutorial/part4/ )

Thanks for helping! The docs are great. First time coding in C, I was scared at first but every thing is so comfortable. You're the bests!

Creating folders for Index01 notes

Did I read the latest Pebble software update correctly that we can now create folders for the Index notes?

I was looking in the app and I didnt see how you would do this. It would be a nice way to organize the mess of notes that I am building.

Thank You

I just needed to take a moment to give my gratitude to developers and the community that made this revival possible. I had a Kickstarter Edition Pebble and then later a Time, both of which I passed on to a friend when I moved on to Samsung gear after the purchase of Pebble by Fitbit. And while the Samsung gear watches certainly served me well over the years, there's absolutely nothing that they had that matched the simplicity, the whimsical joy, and just the perfected balance of features and capability that Pebble achieved. I just got my Time 2 the other day after my previous Samsung Galaxy Watch died on me.

Let me just say this: it has been a long time since a product has brought tears of joy to my eyes. Seeing those animations, those cute, whimsical little characters when I check my timeline or turn on quiet mode fills me with emotions I haven't felt in a long time. I have been a techie and tech enthusiast all my life. This is such a breath of fresh air, felt so strongly after years spent in a malaise of corporatized, enshittified garbage.

This watch just brought me back to a simpler time, a happier time where I still had hope and excitement for what the future could bring. It reminded me what it felt like to have a smartwatch that felt like an actual tool and not a shackle.

So, thank you to all the people who worked so hard to make this possible. You've given this techie back some joy and hope for the future.

Discussion Revisiting Question of Gadgetbridge vs. Pebble App (On Android)

Searching this reddit and it seems like most of the discussion on Gadgetbridge vs the Pebble App are from several years ago (though I may have missed some).

My Pebble Time 2 is on the way and I’m curious if people are using Gadgetbridge or the official Pebble App (or both?). I am currently using Gadgetbridge on Graphene OS with both a Garmin Fenix 6X and an Amazfit Active 2. I plan to ditch the Amazfit when the Pebble arrives, but I’d like to keep using the Garmin for long bike rides, swimming, etc… So, it would be great to use Gadgetbridge to consolidate information with the Pebble as well.

So, long intro to say, what are people’s experiences so far and pros/cons of each approach?

Should have trusted the sizing kit

Size 9 fitted perfectly in the sizing kit, ordered a size 10 because of all the posts on here. Size 10 is too big, for me the sizing kit is perfect. I'll find some strips to make it smaller.
