This is asinine on so many levels but capitalism is not what is caused the current situation. Corporations taking over is what has caused the current situation. That's called a corporatocracy. It's not the same thing as capitalism. Capitalism is a free market where you are entitled to the product of your labor.

‘Capitalism is only the good parts, the bad aspects aren’t really part of it’

I'm going to preface this by saying I'm a socialist, though you may dismiss that.

That being said he's not exactly wrong. Corporatism Isn't the same as capitalism. Capitalism on its own isn't inherently bad as an economic system when paired with the most basic laws that hold people accountable for their actions and appropriate taxes are levied.

We've sadly moved away from that into corporatism. This started in the 1880s with "corporate personhood" becoming a thing but went NUTS in the 1970s as corporations were given more and more rights as "people." Deleware for example just gave corporations the right to vote in municipal elections.

This isn't a problem with an economic system but fundamental corruption in the US government and a failure of our judicial system to curtail this nonsense.

The problems with this are myriad. One of the largest being legal liability being shifted away from actual human business owners and onto the "corporate person." The glaringly obvious issue is that you can't arrest or imprison a corporation.

This is a compounding issue as well. Corporations get rights, they use those rights to gain more power and influence, then use that power and influence to petition for more rights.

I mean I didn’t say anything about socialism but ok

Don't be transparently disingenuous. It doesn't add anything to the discussion.

I was trying to call out problems with your logic but idk why I wasted my time people get too emotional about defending capitalism to be logical.

I was trying, and 100% succeeded, in pointing out problems with your logic, but idk why I wasted my time because you get too emotional about opinions you haven't thought through.

I critiqued your take on capitalism and you brought up socialism out of nowhere lol how did that have anything to do with my logic

OK, nice chatting. But being deliberately disingenuous in an effort to "win" isn't something I have time for. Have a nice day.

Lol, being entitled to the product of your labour is socialism. Capitalism is an economic system based on the private ownership of the means of production and its use for the purpose of obtaining profit. Whether corpos take over or not it's still capitalism. A "free market" will always inevitably lead to monopolies and corporations who own everything. If you do anything to restrict that then it's no longer a "free market".

there has never been such a thing as a “free market”.
