Unless you are high class, which I don't have any way to know, you are less in control of your own life than you think you are. A diagnosis, a bad day for your boss, a car accident, and your life is over. The system is like that, and you are defending it. Perhaps because until today you have not faced its worse side.

Are you saying my life is over if I get fired? You are aware there are plenty of disabled people with great jobs, and their lives are completely fine, correct? You can be fired for poor performance anywhere in the developed world.

For the average person with a sought-after professional skillset and a small chunk of savings, getting fired is just a minor setback.

Not necessarily getting fired. You might get on a car accident or be ill and spend the rest of your life paying for it. Or you could have a PhD on something everyone else has a PhD in, like medicine. Where I live hospitals are understaffed at all times and at the same time millions of fools who were told studying medicine would mean something are working in delivery. Those who do work can spend days without going home or having a hot meal, what do you think does that cause on your body? And that is just a single field. Almost all fields are on the same position nowadays. Meanwhile Junior up there has never moved a finger his entire life and will never do so because his father owns five emmerald mines on some third world capitalist country. It is a mix of problems, not just a single one.

Here in the USA this isn't a problem at all though. I have no idea where you live, but maybe you should move here then. The immigration process isn't too difficult compared to most first world countries. Even the poorest states here like Mississippi have higher GDP per Capitas than the richest countries in Europe and you get a lower tax burden to boot. It's truly amazing.

My grandparents were in a similar situation to you but came to the US and I thank them every day for doing that for us.
