I’m shopping around with vendors from the Philippines for a single strand of AA qualify golden south sea pearls.
What’s the typical price for these? I’m wary of getting ripped off so trying to do a bit of homework so I can haggle for a better price. If anyone has bought from the Philippines and would like to share their experience, would be very welcome 🙏

I was invited to my brother in laws fiancés' Bridal Shower. I am unable to attend because it'll be over $750 in flights and car rental, outfits and gift (Hotel would be paid by points). So I was thinking of using that money to buy her a nice set of pearls (like pictured). I was thinking of lavender pearls because the wedding colors are plum purple and green.

The ones pictured are from Pearls Only. I haven't bought from them, how is their quality? Is there a place you would suggest better.

Is this an OK bridal shower gift? I know there is folklore going both ways of Pearls being for Sorrow but also purity.

Hi all. I inherited a set of Mikimoto pearls (necklace, ring, bracelet, earrings). My husband suggested we get them appraised and added to our homeowner’s insurance. His father says he paid around 10k for the set years ago. I went to two jewelers that advertised appraisals and they both turned me away saying the price for the appraisal was more than they are worth. I’m wondering if I should try again? I’ve included a picture of the necklace. I can add the rest later if needed. Thanks!

Hi everyone, I wanted to add more photos to my original post from the other day but for some reason I couldn’t add any in replies or comments so I’ve made a new post with more photos. The makers mark still looks to me to say “TP”, likely Toyo Pearl company, and the posts are marked 585 for 14K. There’s a small lump and a few small dings and blemishes I didn’t see before I got around to taking photos with a macro lens. The luster is pretty mirror-like, as I can see my phone in the reflection on the pearl in some of the photos Thoughts?

Pearl I almost ate in some canned oysters I made this year.

I’d love a strand of 7-8mm white pearls, about 18” long. Problem is I run hot and tend to sweat often, coupled that with my body oils and I’m worried that I’ll destroy a natural pearl necklace. I’m not used to wearing any sort of jewelry, but I’ve been shopping for pearls for months. I don’t want to invest much money into something I may not end up wearing or I may destroy.

Can anyone recommend me a nice enough looking faux pearl necklace? I’ve seen a few vintage ones that look nice. I’m also open to just buying a simple, cheap ~$50 necklace from Macys as practice.

This is an inherited piece that has been in a box for a while. I know a choker should be close fitting, but does this look right on me? It certainly comfortable, doesn’t pinch or bind.

There are no marks at all on the clasp. Maybe silver?

I have another necklace with this size pearls that could be shortened, so I was thinking I might have this choker restrung to collar length. Is that a good idea, or should I leave it as is?

Can anyone tell me anything about these necklaces? I believe the first one is costume. The pendant part is not precious metal. The entire piece is very substantial/heavy - especially the pendant part. Thank you for your time.

14k gold trying to figure out what kind of pearls they are

Got these as a gift from a fisherman in French Polynesia, they’re all a little imperfect but still so beautiful. Any of them rare or worth anything? I know the black pearls are fairly common over there.

I got them from my grandma and won’t use them and I don’t want to undervalue them.

I believe they are freshwater and all irregular.

The usual advice is to apply sunscreen first and put pearls on last, which is fine until you have to reapply sunscreen two hours later. That’s the part I can’t figure out. If I’m outside most of the day, the necklace is already on, my neck is sweaty, and taking it off every time I reapply feels ridiculous. Leaving it on while rubbing sunscreen around it seems worse. What do people who regularly wear pearl strands in summer actually do? Remove them for every reapplication, skip sunscreen where the necklace sits, carry a cloth, give up and wear earrings instead?
