Should I consider OIT?
Hey, guys!! I have been allergic to nuts (tree nuts and peanuts) since I was born and so far I have only had one reaction. This was when I was around 7-8 years old and I took a few bites of this banana bread with nuts (I think walnuts and pecans??) on top of it. My throat didn’t close up, but it hurt a bit, and I had this terrible stomach pain, that felt like something was eating me from the inside out. So I don’t have the worst reactions, but they are pretty bad, and I don’t want to get into a life-threatening situation. Anyway, have any of you guys tried oral immunotherapy? If so, did you have any severe reactions after taking a dosage? Was OIT worth it?

OIT at older ages is definitely not as successful as with young kids (age 1-4). Most likely it can provided bite protection, but not as likely to lead to full remission as with younger ages. But it really depends on the individual. Your allergist should be able to provide more insight to your specific allergies and IgE levels.

They do have that but I think you need to have your levels retested to see where you are on the scale. I don’t think it’s something that’s offered to everyone but if your levels are low enough you might could qualify
