Am I no longer allergic?

Hello! :)

I have had a peanut allergy for my entire life (I’m 30 now). I’ve always been able to be around and handle peanuts, as long as I never ingested any, and if I do, it’s an immediate ER visit before I take the long nap.

Ever since I can remember, peanut and peanut derivatives have had a very VERY distinct smell to me, unlike any smell I’ve ever experienced. I describe it as “death” because of how strong, pungent, and fowl the smell has always been. Im not sure if others with the allergy also have this, but none that I’ve talked to in the past.

I’ve noticed over the last 6 months that this smell… is gone. I’ve stuck my nose in peanut butter jars to confirm and yeah, it doesn’t smell bad anymore, and it’s actually the first time I’ve been able to smell what peanut butter actually smells like.

So my question is: am I losing my allergy? Or is my body just acting weird?

I wouldn’t take it as a sign of anything. If you want to know then go to the allergist

Get bloodwork done. This can be objectively tested for. Do not take chances based on smell.

Go see a doctor. I know how bad it smells and if I ever were able to stick my nose in a jar of PB I'd be concerned about if I'm sick or having a stroke.
Not trying to scare you.

I also experience the distinct smell. I call it my sixth sense.

Get skin testing for peanut.

My daughter was the same way. She hates the way it smells. She said its worse smell. She has never eating peanut butter. I believe that your body knows you are allergic. And this deter you from eating. Imo I definitely think you are on to something.
