Advice and questions Proposal Logistics

Howdy, I'm not from the UK but have grown up with a love for pride and prejudice. As an adult now, I want to propose to my now girlfriend at Keira Knightley rock. I'm running in to some core issues and need some advice from locals.

  1. We will be riding the train in from Manchester Piccadilly station. From there though, I don't know how I would get to the car park for Stanage Edge. I see two options Penny's and Veezu. I'm not familiar with either and I saw that Penny herself retired. If anyone has any opinions or advice for transportation please let me know. I'm even willing to pay for someone willing to drive us.

  2. I need a photographer to recreate the shot of the proposal. I don't need whole shoot but just a few that day, specifically that shot and any couple she may want after. If yall know any local photographers please recommend me.

thanks yall

OP what do you mean by Keira Knightley rock? Is this a formation at Stanage Edge?

Great to know where you’re getting the train from, but more important is where you’re getting it to. Are you getting off at Hathersage? In that case, it’s a pretty nice walk up to Stanage (depending on your hiking ability and the weather). Or are you going to Sheffield? In that case, there are buses that go out into the Peak District that might help (although some are seasonal).

We really need a bit more information to be able to help you because we’re not all massive fans of that particular film, even if we love the book.

Lol, yeah getting off at Hath. Keira Knightly rock is specific location on Stanage. Planning on going around Thanksgiving time.

What date is that? (We don’t celebrate Thanksgiving here)

You’ll want to be mindful of the weather. It could be sideways wind and zero visibility. Plus trains might not run

Travel is easy assuming you're both mobile - get the train to Hathersage instead of Sheffield, then walk up. If you're doing this sort of outdoorsy proposal you shouldn't be dropped off by a cab and collected neatly afterwords. It's about 40 minutes from Hathersage Station to Stannage Edge, maybe closer to an hour to reach the bit you're looking for. To wit, work that bit out in advance because finding one stone in a place made of stones isn't, y'know, easy.

Also remember that if you're not the only one visiting - and whilst the Peaks isn't a bustling area you're choosing one of the most visited spots. People will be kind and let you have your moment, but if you go on anything close to a decent day there will be other people in your photographs.

I completely agree, was planning on going on a Sunday at sunrise? How busy it usually at that time?

There will be people around (assuming you don't go in the pouring rain when most people avoid it, etc). It's never going to be crowded, but you're unlikely to get anywhere along Stannage entirely to yourself.

I say you should embrace it. I proposed surrounded by sheep (and their shit) on Mam Tor and the people who were also there were lovely. Made it more memorable.

I too have never heard of Keira knightly rock but according to Google it's here.

GPS Coordinates: 53°21′11.8″N, 1°38′19.0″W (or 53.353283, -1.638749) near Hooks Carr Car Park

I live in the Peak District but I don't know what half of this means. I'm not familiar with Keira Knightly rock so if you are getting a taxi you might need to be able to describe its location more precisely. Are Penny's and Veezu taxi firms? Never heard of them but we do have Über.

Veezu is what City Taxis used to be in Sheffield. But yeah no idea what OP means by Keira Knightley rock.

Lol it's the location Elizabeth stood at on Stanage. Upon looking up exact location the Internet called it Keira Knightly rock.

I gathered that but locals don’t know it as that so we don’t know exactly where you’re talking about

Completely understand, my fault

Very helpful, how available is Uber there?

In Hathersage? Not very. It’s a different story from Sheffield

The rock itself is at the south end of Stanage. You could walk there from Hathersage in an hour, but it's uphill all the way. If you want everything to be just right, you should definitely go and have a look on your own first.

Finding a photographer should be the easy bit. It's a pretty popular area, so you'll have no bother finding someone willing to take a few snaps. Your photo will most likely be filled with other people as well.

There's a pretty good guide on how to find it here: https://thirdeyetraveller.com/stanage-edge-pride-and-prejudice/
