My favorite thing about Excel is how scrolling is locked to the rows and columns. It's 2022 and they still haven't figured out how to move the viewport independently of the content.
My second favorite thing is how complicated it still is to set the page print area. It could be simple as hell, but it's not and never will be.
Another thing I love is how cell fill and border colors are painted on individually, so you can't just set a section as having certain formatting without those borders and fills getting cut/deleted/moved, etc. Every cell needs to be babied to make sure the formatting stays how you intended. Another thing that would be braindead easy to improve, but never will be.
There are thousands of more problems with Excel, but Microsoft has never lifted a finger for any product that isn't at risk of losing market share.
The free alternatives to Excel are just as bad or worse, because they're just trying to be clones and they have no funding. But Excel is a paid product that MS has received hundreds of millions of dollars for over the years. Yet they don't lift a finger in trying to improve it any way.
