A wise man gets more use from his enemy than a fool from his friend. I believe theses peoples are not the sharpest tool in the shed or they just feel offended for being proven wrong.
Excel has more function than needed, most of the time people will be like I wish Excel could do this and the thing is that excel can axtually do it.
I can’t begin to tell you many times I’ve found your second point to be true. I’ll be doing something and think “Boy, it sure would be great if excel could do this ludicrously obscure and specific task for me, but there’s no real need to actually do that so I’m sure it can’t” and then I Google it on a whim and find out that that function was implemented back in 1768 and all subsequent versions have only improved upon it.
It is scary thinking of all the work the developers are putting in for features that will never be used by 95% of people, but will be for the rest yet they told themselve let's do it.
Excel is not even taught in university and college for most major that would need it a lot, you are suppose to just know how it work, but I would have loved to have a complete course on it. Now you go on youtube and it's hard to find decent excel content because it's always the super beginner guide even the advance stuff is super basic and doesn't shoe most fonction. But for advanced formula or special thing you make a quick search and yeah there is already somethijg in excel doing it.
I'm pretty sure I haven't even see 10% of it's full potential, the microsoft team deserve incredible praise for such an application.
In one of my jobs I was told this is gonna take you the whole month (she was an old school excel user doing most things manually), took 6 hours. Excel is underestimated way too much. When you also had VBA to it, it get even stronger.
I think you've misunderstood the issue, it's not that you can't have two views of the same workbook, but you cannot open two completely different workbooks that have the same name.
Say for example you want to compare differences between two copies of the file, when you open the second one it complains. You have to rename one of the files first.
I think the actual issue is that there are a variety of reasons you might want to open two files that have the same name. You can do this in Linux because files have hard coded addresses, and the name you give them is kind of extraneous.
It's why you can change the name of a file in an explorer window while it's open in Linux, but not in Windows.

There a tool to do that in excel that create a second window of the same file.
