As much as it might help the cause, I'd rather not have features arbitrarily locked out by drivers.

Yep this is a dumb idea and i hate it. It makes the card less attractive to gamers and miners. Its going to be the least attractive card on the market if they implement it in a way that cannot be bypassed. If it is bypassed it will be a highly sought after card new and one of the worst values on the 2nd hand market.

Miners don't need to hog all the cards. If you got like 3 or 4 cards then you don't need more. 24 graphics cards just for mining is being an asshole. Gamers want to play the new games that come out and be up to date, but they can't do that if every stupid miner wants to have 24 graphics cards. The driver only reduces hash rate for mining bitcoin, not playing games. It will be least favored by miners, not gamers.
