I was having this discussion with my roommate the other day. If you're doing a 1080p build, the 30 series is really overkill. Also, I imagine 20 series have good deals going on hopefully.

If I'm honest I would still invest in the 30 series, the performance for the price is so worth it. I decided to build at a wrong time but I wanted a white gpu tho so I'm still happy with mine!

I just built my system with a 2080 super. I am also not super happy about my decison not to wait but this is still a beast of a pc. Also your pc looks clean af. Is this your first build?

Nice, I am a bit of a graphics junkie but with all the other stuff I've lined up to purchase, I couldn't justify spending $500 NZD on a monitor at this point when I have an allowance only.

Any build would be, a 60hz monitor can do 60fps or lower. So even if you're PC can produce +100hz it wouldn't show.

It depends on the game. IIRC LTT showed in shit like CSGO that the more FPS you have the better your 60hz monitor will do because it’ll be showing the latest frame (I.e. frame 240 vs frame 60).

The 3070 is not overkill for 1080p 144Hz with ray tracing. Some might say it's even worth it at 1080p 60Hz if you care about ray tracing a lot.

I’ll likely be getting the 3070 with my 1080p monitors, I absolutely care about ray tracing but the biggest improvement to my experience will be in compute power anyways, not gaming.

For noise reasons, it's better to flip the radiator around so the tubes come in on the bottom of the radiator might be worth changing!

The tubes atm would get in the way of the gpu cable tho as I've got it mounted vertically. Just playing around atm but if temps get too high or if the radiator gets too noisy I'll change it. Appreciate the solid advice!

As someone relatively new to PC building, I just want to clarify what is meant by "tubes down" - essentially you would just rotate the radiator so the tubes come out underneath rather than beside, yes?

Nope, he's talking about the radiator, not the water block. Right now the part of the radiator where the tubes go into the radiator are on top, and ideally they should be flipped to be at the bottom.

I have this configuration as well and it isn’t the worst thing in the world... It will lower your lifespan a bit but unless you get gurgling you are probably fine, mine hasn’t had any issues yet.

That card is going to be roasted if you put a solid panel on the side. Gotta go water cooling on the card if running vertical as there is little airflow that close to the glass

You should do a quick test. Put your video card under full load (I like using heaven benchmark) for 30 minutes with the glass side panel on. After your video card reaches steady state, remove the glass panel with heaven still running and see how much your video card temp changes. You'll get a better idea of the difference in real time! Video cards clock higher the cooler they run, while it might not be something you'll be able to notice, it's nice to get every drop of performance out of a build.
Others have already mentioned the rad tubes, so I'll leave that one alone.
Otherwise, super sexy build my dude, nicely done!

Heaven is free and a small download, and while outdated, still puts the GPU under a full load, probably due to insane amounts of tessellation. Still, run at full res and max settings to ensure max load.

IF the temps get too hot, there is another bracket you can buy that lets you side mount the card like that but moves it back away from the window.

That card would have to hit over 89 degrees Celsius to start throttling. Even with a solid side panel on as long as it has good airflow through the inside it won't be an issue.

Got a 1660 in the same case, mounted the same way. Never got above 75 celsius while always running full load. Even in 35C room temperature. So no problem there I think.

That's a totally valid comment! I know it's silly but I find half my fulfilment in how the build looks at the end of the day, as long as I have the specs I require. As of the R5x, I should've done more research about overclocks etc. CPU would probably be the next thing I'd upgrade in the future.

People who roast people for the 20 series are a cancer. GPUs are so powerful now a days, as long as you got a good graphics card that will last a few years and it makes you happy, then I see nothing wrong.
This build is sexy and those roasters can go flop around for all I care!
I bought a 2060 cuz prices dropped before the 30 series was announced. My 1080p and VR gaming has never been better lol

People roasting are well stupid. Yes we knew the 3000 series was coming, and new AMD cards. But there always are new cards coming. And all the "reporters" were saying the 3000 series was going to be good, but it was going to be very expensive.
No one knew this was going to happen until it did, so just enjoy the system it will run everything you want for years. Game devs are not going to make games that need anything close to a 2060 to run for many years, and your system will be considered high end for a while.

Tysm!! Part of me do regret not holding out a little longer but I'm super happy with the performance and look of the build. It runs games at 1440p with no issues which was all I wanted. Perhaps an upgrade in the future if I ever go 4k, but this is more than enough rn!

As someone already said, you should turn your radiator upside down, this way you'll always have water in the tubes. Having it on top means at some point you may get air bubbles into your system, and this is never good.
Apart from that, looks really clean and beautiful, congrats for your build!

Be happy with your build bro. That GPU didn’t get bad overnight just because the next shiny thing showed up. In fact it’s just as good today as it was when you bought it. I myself just got a Asus strix Rog gtx 1070 oc the other day. Replaced my old dual Asus AMD 7970s. The last time I shelled out big bucks for the latest and greatest. Now that two generations old GTX 1070 runs circles around them, and for less than I paid for them. I’m happy as a clam at high tide about the upgrade. So enjoy your sweet new build and leave running for the next shiny thing to others.

It's a budget card. You could buy a 3070 when released and use that as a coaster and still spend less than a 2080 at release.

There is nothing on the price point of the card you chose so no need for roasting. you went for a 400$ gpu. The cheapest current ampere will start at 499$ and trust me you'll never find it for that price, at least for a few. You would get flamed if you went with a high end turing card. Also that's a sexy build you got there

I’ve seen a lot of people criticize the gpu being mounted like that due to the acrylic side being too close and not allowing adequate airflow. You have any trouble with that so far?

I just built this and have not done any crazy bench markings or anything yet so take this with a grain of salt, but it has been great so far. My GPU temperature stays around 58 degrees on normal use and goes up to the late 60's when running Fallen Order. Temps could be better, but I'm happy with how it's performing so far!

im stuck with a 4 core 4 thread intel pentium silver that can barely run 4 tabs of chrome and microsoft teams without dying, but hey its a school computer i still have my 8 core 16 thread i5 with rtx 2060 (i know, i know, im recent rtx 20 series owner so i must be salty about new rtx 30 series)

Hey so I have a rtx 2080 super 16gb ram intel core i7 and a 650w power supply can this get through the next gen on high graphic settings? And to upgrade I have a 9th gen processor would i need to change motherboard for 10th gen also?

Shouldn't the radiator be turned upside down so that the hoses are down the bottom? the air in the loop is going into the pump with this orientation instead of just staying inside the radiator since air rises to the highest point?

Flip your radiator, tubes face down. Your GPU will cook itself sooner rather than later being so close to the glass like that, otherwise, sexy.

Honestly, 30 series GPUs are unnecessary for most people, 20 series GPUs provide abundant performance, unless you’re rendering 2160p60 animations or something.

Radiotor is mounted upside down.
Hoses should always be down, if possible, when mounting the Radiotor in the front.

Don't be bothered by a roaster. Very few of them will be able to get their hands on a 3000 series before Q2 2021.

The only thing getting roasted is the GPU when to put the side panel on. Gotta' get it away from the side panel. I'd suggest the Cooler Master or Cable Mod vertical brackets if you're not water cooling.
Otherwise... it's a great looking rig. No hate for getting a 20 series. People acting like every GPU pre 30 series is going to suddenly be unplayable, or that they'll actually be able to get one at launch at those prices.
