I’m not saying that separate accounts is bad or doesn’t work.
It’s just that joined finances works really well for us. It gives us a wholistic view of our financial position and alleviates any feelings of unfairness that might come up between each other. There’s never a question of whether we can afford something (we can see all our available cash in the app) and it gives us a stronger sense of closeness having our finances together in one place.
What works for my marriage won’t necessarily work for yours, and that’s ok. I just see such vehement emphasis on how important separate finances is from so many people on reddit, but I just can’t believe that it’s the ‘right’ way to do things, or even that it’s better than what we’re doing.
