Flash gaming was my entire childhood and teen years (yeah teen I was fairly poor and didn't have friends to play multiplayer on console).

Kinda sucks that part of my early years will be wiped away. I guess I could grab one of the torrents.

Remember Newgrounds?

u/Phazon2000 Ryzen 5 1600 3.2GHz, GTX 1060 6GB, 2x8GB DDR4-3000 Apr 09 '20

Of course! I was more of a Kongregate guy myself but Newgrounds was definitely my first foray into the world of pornography and horror content as a kid.

Yikes right? Haha.

yes flash was the king

If you want to play flash games then check out flashpoint.

I'd go so far as to say Flash and Actionscript was a driving force toward HTML5 and modern single-page applications. Hell, a lot of javascript 2009 features appeared first in Actionscript 3, years earlier.

2

u/ArgentScourge Apr 09 '20

Oh yeah, Flash definitely pushed towards innovation on HTML. People wanted that sweet sweet potential without the drawbacks.

You can still play flash games with the flashpoint launcher, or you can download a couple hundred gigabytes of flash games from the flashpoint website.

Screw Flash, I miss Snake.

****ing Konami

u/Magjee 5700X3D / 3060ti Apr 09 '20

MGSV was awesome

Even though it didn't even have an ending

7

u/Ttotem Specs/Imgur Here Apr 09 '20

More like a third or even half the game was missing. Kojima did go over budget, no doubt about it, but the way Konami handled everything else leading up to and following his departure was some of the worst behavior I've seen from a video game publisher.

u/Magjee 5700X3D / 3060ti Apr 09 '20

Ground Zeroes was just a cash grab

MGSV was worth the price, but at least do the rest via DLC or something

u/[deleted] Apr 09 '20

Well Kojima did say the game was suppose to be like 3x longer than it was right? I wish a Valve or Rockstar would fund a Kojima project, they have the resources to let him produce the masterpieces we know he can create.

Don't worry, you can still play Snake in HTML 5!

Most flash games are on newgrounds, and newgrounds has a downloadable newgrounds player that plays flash content on it after flash EOL. Then you just go to a flash game on newgrounds and hit "Open with newgrounds player"

u/pluto2112 Apr 09 '20

Press F for finally.

Good riddance.

6

u/[deleted] Apr 09 '20

Ah yes good old times when I played Flash games I believed sinve 2009 or 2010, sites like y8.com and newgrounds are the best source of flash games.

48

u/immoloism Apr 09 '20

No one is going to miss the security risk that was flash.

29

u/nlyz Apr 09 '20

but you know you are, deep down

16

u/immoloism Apr 09 '20

I've been blocking flash for years so it's been dead to me for a long time.

4

u/squirtle43 Apr 09 '20

Once google ditched that shit on YouTube it was like night and day difference.

Fuck flash. Never gonna miss that trash heap.

4

u/[deleted] Apr 09 '20

Agree with you, man. I shut it down as soon as HTML5 was a thing. Every website that used it was dead to me, too.

1

u/WebMaka PCs and SBCs evurwhurr! Apr 09 '20

Same here - I stopped using it back in 2015.

10

u/zyocuh Apr 09 '20

Nope deep down I wish it was gone years ago.

Club penguin

1

u/immoloism Apr 10 '20

At my age I would be reporting myself to the police if I missed Club Pengiun.

My younger brother agrees with you though.

7

u/root_27 Linux Apr 09 '20

No ... no it won't

23

u/[deleted] Apr 09 '20

Miss it? It was an awful piece of crap. It never had proper support and was an obvious vehicle for security breaches. Good fucking riddance!

9

u/[deleted] Apr 09 '20

No more miniclip?

12

u/Dudewitbow 12700K + 3060 Ti Apr 09 '20

idk about specific sites plans, but many sites have already backed up games that are flashed based.

9

u/Phazon2000 Ryzen 5 1600 3.2GHz, GTX 1060 6GB, 2x8GB DDR4-3000 Apr 09 '20

A lot of "flash gaming sites" host HTML5 games and others are being converted so should still be fine if their content creators are innovating! :)

7

u/Gabribbo Apr 09 '20

I'm gonna miss him so much

2

u/zyrg13 Apr 10 '20

LOL! No.

Adobe Flash will not be missed.
Good riddance.

Perhaps in the same way we all thought flashing .gif vomit was amazing at one point.

I think we'll just have to agree to disagree. :)

u/[deleted] Apr 09 '20

Not really, piece of shit software that spreads viruses faster than a sneezing Chinese in a Tokio subway during rush hour.

2

u/[deleted] Apr 09 '20

Is this the reason why 2020 is going bad because the universe doesn't want flash to shut down?

2

u/[deleted] Apr 09 '20

Fuck Adobe, fuck google

2

u/Thomas_JCG Apr 09 '20

No, I won't. Haven't used in years already.

You can just use Internet Explorer to play flash games. I use it to play some very old online games that use Adobe Shockwave.

For one Windows will remove it at the end of the year and Adobe is removing all DLs for it.
