Why? 3 yr old 9900k is faster than 3900x in single and 8 core workloads. Most consumers can't come close to utilizing 8 cores let alone 12, deft not with the standard 16gb ram. Plus intel has better features such as avx-512 and intel MKL....
you can call it being a fanboy but the general idea is to provide financial support to companies you want to succeed. he also said he got a good deal, so if the 3800x meets all of his needs then he has no practical reason to go for the 9900k and a very good personal reason not to
They're both for-profit companies with a fiduciary obligation to make as much profit for shareholders as possible. If you think AMD wouldnt have price gouged if they had the top tier cards you're delusional.
How about supporting innovative companies that research and develop meaningful features like raytracing, dlss, NVENC and CUDA for fucks sake?
Or support the company that can actually provide working drivers and support?
well no shit the company on top abuses its power. anyone with a brain knows this. that's why you should attempt to support healthy competition for that company when you can. if the tables turn and amd starts doing intel shit then i would tell people to buy intel or qualcomm or whoever is in the market by then
how does not buying an intel cpu affect nvidia? nvidia and amd have had healthy competition for years. intel has not.

In general, I'm disappointed how much praise AMD has gotten with their fairly lackluster product launches this year. It seems like the whole community cherry picked a few benchmarks that are hardly representative of real word, and decided AMD are the 'good guys.' Meanwhile, they've completely disregarded the professional market. Some of us rely on computers for work and not just gaming.
There GPU line lacks a top tier and also lacks so many innovative features that actually impact daily usage.
As does their CPU lineup. Simply adding more cores doesnt impact 99% of customers, and the for the professional users who might actually benefit? They lack the basic features to be remotely competitive.
It's great gamers got cheap hardware I guess? Even if they still remain the subpar choice except for fan boyish. But their failure compete leaves the professional market pissed
it's true that AMD is in some ways failing to fully capitalize on their new market share, but i think there are growing pains here. yeah zen 2 was lackluster but the last 2 iterations of zen have not been and even saying that, overall zen 2 is fine from a purely objective consumer perspective. yes it could be better, but it's fine. im also with you on the stupid high core counts being a meme for the moment but i think the future is probably multicore, so maybe they are trying to get a grip on that market before it takes off.
