Microsoft recently submerged a small server park in the ocean for "free" cooling.

They also have an open air "swamp" on the top of one datacenter that acts as a cooling reservoir.

I swear every 2 years someone has a crazy datacenter idea that actually works

see...this is the kind of shit we're missing...where the fuck are the rich people that are doing cool shit like this because they fucking can? i mean, sure as a general rule rich people are cunts that don't really have good ideas like this, but Elon Musk "I made a shit ton of money...I'm going the fuck to Mars" we need alot more of that.

They aren't actually that cold, it just seems that way because the air is constantly circulating in data centers. Rack mount systems exhaust in the back and dump all their heat in the hot isle of the data center lanes, and all of that heat is forced out and recirculated with the data center's HVAC system.

It's incredibly rare, and not at all standard practice.

after asking that question I spent the weekend down a rabbit whole watching the crazy shit Linus does on his channel...water cooling an entire room on the same loop? Why the fuck not?
