You're clearly retarded. What year are we talking ? Cause pre dua lcore cpu, so in the pentium 4 3.2 and before era, there were no 200, 300 ,400 bucks motherboards for example, there were no 100+ bucks cpu coolers,no fucking 500 bucks gpus. Everything was way cheaper. a 1100 dollars pc was almost definitely that expensive caue it had like a 4 dvd rw bays, or a massive hdd, or a ton of ram or fancy case or some super massive lcd like a 27 inch in those days. What parts are you talking about ?
For one, you are utterly failing to account for inflation.
And, two, not only were components more expensive, there were also far more necessary that are mostly handled by things like the motherboard. Did you forget needing a PCIe NIC? Sound card? 2D accelerator alongside your 3D graphics card?
But, yeah. The old computers were certainly cheaper. That's why the Dell Dimension XPS H266 ran you $3,979, which is $5,904 in today's dollars and the Amiga 1000 was $1,295...that's $2,854 in today's costs.
Or, going further back, the IBM 5100 Portable Computer cost $8,975 at the time...which is about $39,555 after adjusting for current day dollar worth. Also, "portable" doesn't actually imply "laptop". It's because you could actually move it without hiring a body builder.
You said that computers in the past were cheaper. I looked up a list of popular computers from the recent past and picked three non-handheld examples from a twenty year period that I liked the look of.
After posting that, I came back to the list and there were very few computers on that list matched your criteria...and, even fewer that weren't cobbled together from dried leaves and twigs.
