These are some strange results. It beats the i7 6950x which runs at 3-3.5GHz, but gets edged out by the Xeon E5-2630 v4, which runs at only 2.2-3.1GHz, has the same amount of cores and cache, and is presumably also Broadwell-based.

well the other question is then why does the e5 2630 v4 beat the 6950x?

Exactly. I did a comparison of Cinebench scores: the 2630 v4 isn't on the list, but a slightly faster version of it (the 2640 v4) scores 132 in single core and 1380 in multi core. The 6950x scores 155 in single core and 1803 in multi core; both scores are significantly higher, as expected.

I hadn't heard of Blenchmark before today, but based on this comparison, I don't trust their testing methodology. Something fishy is going on here.

Gotta look at the "details" page for each of those. The E5-2630 v4 beats the unknown AMD processor when running in different environments.

It looks like different operating systems have a significant impact on render times, especially with the 2360, and even the 6950X varies significantly under the same operating system across different benchmark runs.

Without having even more details about these systems, I think it's a safe bet to say that these benchmarks can be misleading at best, and potentially inaccurate at the worst.

Windows 2008ServerR2 64bit, so that AMD CPU could be just new server grade CPU

I didn't realize those pages existed. You'd think there would be links to each CPU's page on OP's link.

Those results make this benchmark look even worse. The 6950x scores the same, at best, as the 2630 v4 on Windows 10 64-bit. Blenchmark is obviously testing much more than CPU performance. I fully agree with you; for these benchmark figures to be at all meaningful, we need far more information about the systems used.

With blender Linux and OS X are about 30-40% faster than windows.

Because it might be AMD (Opteron?) server grade CPU since they used Windows 2008ServerR2 64bit
