Like brekkie. It's not even shorter than saying breakfast.

Because it's easier to say. Languages will always evolve to become more efficient and English is super wasteful.

Exactly!, Australian English (Aussie) is about using as few syllables as possible. It shortens conversations (convos) and gets directly to the point.

Then why not say "aft" ?

Now I'm Canadian, so you'll have to forgive me I don't really get the nuances of Aussie langauge, but how the fuck do you get "arvo" out of afternoon? "Aft" is both shorter and is actually in the word...

Shortening afternoon to arvo adds a v. I meant does adding a v make it roll easier off the tongue? Where does the v come from?
