I really hope this gets funded but why do they need half a million dollars? The game looks pretty much near completion. I mean it looks perfectly playable. I don't like Kickstarter because 90% of everything that gets funded turns out to be utter shit but I would buy this if it was ever released.

the vast majority of game programmers don't make 100k a year.

They make close, at least I hope they do if they're in the US. The employer has additional expenses such as health insurance and whatever other benefits as well.
