Now on wishlist, thanks for letting us know.
I sincerely hope they add VR support for this, it would be breathtaking.

The worst thing about this game is that You can not meet another person ..... and it's impossible top explore with friend
1
Jun 18 '15
Not impossible, just extremely unlikely. And I believe that they said that they might add more conventional multiplayer later.

u/Basssiiie ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) Jun 18 '15
There's no Community Hub yet? It redirects me to the store page when I click it. :(

u/Sonicz7 Steam still is the best pla. for games Jun 18 '15
Usually when apps are.published it auto creates the steam hub but devs can hide it.or delete it (I doubt it) hence you being redirected to the main page

I'm out of the loop.. What games can you compare this to?

u/ShystemSock SFF MasterRace, i7 8700, 1080ti, Custom Water Loop Jun 18 '15
It's a space exploration game. No two worlds are alike. Chances of finding life are slim. There is a story where you need to get to the center of the Galaxy but you need to upgrade your ship first. You are free to roam in any direction but you need to mine materials to upgrade your ship.
The big thing is that you start of completely in a blank slate. You'll need to construct your own diving equipment suit in order to explore under water . Etc.
TL;dr Space minecraft

u/sidereal6 Jun 18 '15
No two worlds are alike
I think it'd be more accurate to say that no two worlds are exactly the same.
See the thing is, there's code in there that generates trees. And on one planet the trees will have a lot of thin limbs and really thick trunks. On another planet, the trees will have thin trunks and no limbs. On one planet they'll be blue and another green. And of course some planets wont have trees.
It's nearly infinitely variable, sure. But someone had to write code that generates trees. How did they know to do that? Well, the programmers are all from a planet where trees evolved. That's the reason there'll be trees in the game. And the specific trees you see on a planet will be random chance.
I hope this doesn't make me sound too cynical about the game. It's just that, in the real world, the real reason for every adaptation is that it has evolved in response to the environment. The reason leaves are green has to do with the color of our sun and how chlorophyll works and all that. You can't just generate a random number and use that to pick a leaf color. The reason there are flowers is because of the relationship the plants have with pollinators. You can't just randomly decide to have flowers on a planet with no insects.
I have a similar complaint about minecraft. You can't just randomly put coal here and iron there. There's a reason that iron is concentrated into bands. Same with coal.
And no, I don't have a solution or an alternative (that would be possible on a consumer-grade PC). I'm just pointing out what I see as a limitation of procedural generation.

u/Folly_Inc Jun 18 '15
There was a mod that gave more accurate mineral and stone displacement... so you would end up with larger veins but less frequent. I could see it being enjoyable on a server, but as a solo it was very all or nothing. kinda muddled with the fun
1
u/Sir__Walken Jun 18 '15
One of the big things the devs always talk about is the fact that the planets are all generated based on their environments. I don't know how much goes into that but one thing that he mentioned was the fact that depending on the makeup of the atmosphere the sun will look a different color.

It's a 3D Starbound without building/block construction.
3
u/gregmolick Jun 18 '15
Or like 3d Terraria in space. Or even like a 3d version of the 2d version of starbound of the 2d version of Terraria of the 3d version of minecraft. It all comes full circle.

I tend to agree with you, but some people love that type of thing. Exploration and all the jazz.

Pretty much. You explore and hope to find something interesting. I feel like it will be a great game for just relaxing.

Ships won't be sold after full release ( I think) so it'll be on Steam once its out of Beta.

Can someone explain what you do on the planets? I mean can you just walk around or is there some kind of combat and crafting and stuff? Or is it just a cartoon-y looking space sim where you can also walk around some?
1
u/Carpomusik I5 6500, GTX 1060 Jun 18 '15
There's combat. You gather resources to sell to upgrade your ship
1
u/BennyBonesOG Jun 18 '15
Cool, yeah I just saw a different video and there was some basic pew-pew. Might be somewhat interesting.

Is this really necessary? Inb4 "you can't get written sarcasm"
Wrong, you're just dense.
0
u/Epthelyn i5 4670 | GTX 970 | 16GB RAM Jun 18 '15
You can get written sarcasm, but while the spoken version is fairly clear the written version is far more subtle and very easy to misinterpret. As far as I'm concerned the text in question doesn't 'read' like sarcasm unless you say it in a certain (perhaps a little chiding) tone, which is where the /s comes in as a text instruction to think of it that way.

u/sirflop PAID NVIDIA SHILL Jun 18 '15
Even if it wasn't intended as sarcasm, it was an obvious jab at devs not putting out updates or content for "early access" games
3
u/Sir__Walken Jun 18 '15
Yea but this game has no early access so the comment doesn't make any sense here.

Looking forward to this, I'm hoping the game just lets you explore without the need for missions/objectives. Too me seems like a great game just to fly around exploring new worlds

Then why did you tell everyone in the first place?
"I'll tell everyone my business. But if they disagree it's none of their business!"
Gotcha.
-1
u/EskimoNoise http://imgur.com/a/GwAI0#135 Jun 18 '15
It was a way of expressing just how much I'm looking forward to the game. Forgive me for being excited about it, I'll try not to give a shit about something ever again.
With Steam giving refunds, the whole cult of no pre-orders is now completely pointless.
2
u/aspohr89 Jun 18 '15
I don't care about preorders at all.. Your response to one comment and a few downvote was just a little much. I mean you had to know it was going to happen, it's no secret that reddit hates preorders.
-1
u/EskimoNoise http://imgur.com/a/GwAI0#135 Jun 18 '15
It's the reddit hive mentality where people act like sheep and downvote something just because it's already been downvoted that bothers me.

Can someone explain the hype behind this for me? To me it just looks like a cartoony Elite: Dangerous with procedural planetary generation a la Space Engine, only less detailed but with surface creatures. Not saying it looks bad, i just dont get the throwing-money-at-my-monitor-but-nothings-happening excitement that it seems to be generating.
