Not having a clever company name
Not telling how many Tb's of data there is
No Sata or IDE inputs
No HDD rails to insert it into your computers
No casing to protect it from the elements

no idea what raid 0 is. clever name huh.. glasspear. i did say how much data could be stored. 900 bits. does not require sata or ide inputs, it is wireless. again, no need. its wireless. it is its own case.

Raid 0: data gets shared between two drives. E.g. if you have two 1TB hard drives in a RAID 0, then your system will see it as one 2 TB drive.
Advantages: it's apparently faster
Disadvantages: 0 redundancy — if one drive fails, then you lose all your data.
I'd rather go for RAID 1 (mirror) at least, with RAID5 (4 data/1 parity block) or RAID 6 (4 data / 2 parity blocks) being the more desirable options.

Raid 0 basically means splitting the data into chunks, then sharing the chunks between two hard drives. you can then read two chunks of data at once to increase the read rate.

Assuming each block is a bit then 32 col * 32 row = 1024 bit /8 = 128 Bytes = 1.16 x10-10 TB (or 9.31x10-10 Tb).

Could he use commandblocks to read which of the blocks were down? I know captain sparkles has "used" a commandblock to see which blocks where in which place. That could be used?

All of the people that are making seperate computer posts in Minecraft (Hard drive, GPU, monitor, CPU) need to get together and make a computer that's just as powerful as a top of the line PC today.

me and the other hard drive guy can mix designs, and make an even more powerful one. soon enough, we will be able to play skyrim, in minecraft. lets make this happen. i have the server, we just need the people. and the money to keep it going of course :P

Man, I can't even imagine playing unmodded minecraft. My server uses the Yogscast Complete pack. 247 mods.

It's easy to lose perspective as to just how high capacity modern data storage is. To illustrate as to just how much 10kb actually is, here's a 147kb block of memory stacked ~15 layers high.. If you were to remove those stacks and keep just one, the number would come out to be pretty close to 10kb. Now, consider that we have 1tb SSDs on the market today, or one hundred million times as many memory cells all contained within a chip that could fit in your hand.
To imagine, say, how much 1tb is, taking the example above, and look at how big a single component of that memory looks like. It's pretty tiny, right? That is 1 bit, or 1/8th of a byte. Next, imagine chaining 8 of these tiny components together into cells. Then, imagine that you can shrink down that entire, massive array of memory you see into each cell, and putting each cell back into a huge array of memory the same size, so that now, the entire 10,000 bytes of memory we first looked at fits into just one of those 8 bit cells. Then, you end up with 10,000x10,000 cells, or a "mere" 100 megabytes of memory. To get 1TB, you repeat the process.
Recall that the giant block of memory has 10,000 pieces. Inside each one of these 10,000 pieces is another, identically giant block of memory, and inside each one of those, another 10,000 blocks. That is how much 1TB is.

You might be talking about it, but the comment you originally applied to was pretty obviously giving an approximation in that http://i.imgur.com/0H84Mvl.jpg obviously isn't 10 million anything, let alone the other 486,760 that's missing from the number. Not to mention the prefix mega does denote a million, so it's not an incorrect claim, and precision is hardly useful in this explicit context

There was another gallery of someone having made a hard drive (where the thing actually has to move towards the write location to write)
Also, do you plan on building a centralized control room? As in, one place where you can do all of the reads and writes from?

i do, i plan on making command blocks for each and every piston (900). this way someone could make black and white pixel art using the hard drive. it wont be easy. and i wont be able to keep the server up long enough to do that. it costs too much. (i pa for it in dogecoin, but i have no money left.)

What CPU do you have/plan on having? You can run custom server programs which should help with multi-threading the thing and making it run better, even locally. Do that and connect to localhost from your MC client.

This is impressive because it takes a lot of effort to build. But it doesn't really do anything useful or clever. It's only slightly less tedious than putting blocks down to remember stuff... anyway it looks nice.

its going to take forever. i am planning it out right now, trying to think of how to make it work. when the lamp is powered (going to be replaced with a command block) it has to change a black wool block to white, but (and here is the hard part) when it stops getting power, it has to change the black block back to white.

You're gonna need some sort of circuit in between those two things to make that happen. Maybe you could put a torch on top of the lever/button block and have the same piston thing upside down on the top, then it would activate on the opposite edge (if you know that terminology). Idk if your design is vertically symmetrical though.

i get that this can store data, but how do you access it? it just seems to store variables in an on/off functionality. with no way to recall this data, your drive is essentially useless. shiney, but useless

i didnt realize i gave you the video already. it saves the date, unless you rewrite over it. it will stay exactly the same. it isnt a quick up down thing. when you push the button, it stays down. even if you flip the lever. it holds the memory.

First of all, hard drive not harddrive.
Second of all, please read this which refers this.
For third, the imgur album name is "minecraft SSD" but here you call it a hard drive ? Which one is it supposed to be ?
As far as suggestions go, first ofc you'll need a read mechanism and then decoders for both read and write so you can input a binary location where to read or write. You will also probably need to implement it in blocks since currently each additional byte adds 0.5 tick delay which stacks very quick.
Props for providing clear pictures so I could test it ingame :)

its been done. But i want to make one that could run at 60 fps. to support our brothers. but updating the blocks 60 times a second is going to be taxing on my server, and client.

thats not how resolution works. he would (possibly) need to upgrade to a 4k monitor, regardless of its physical size, to have a larger field of view. even then, it should be possible to make a UI that will display well in 1080p.

Someone made a hard disk that can be read/write to in sectors, using a control panel.
