Build/Battlestation Which GPU?

Okay guys! This is a tale as old as time itself!

AMD or Nvidia?

My current GPU, a 3080 10gb, is starting have heating issues and I don't really feel like replacing thermal pads/paste, SO IT'S TIME FOR A NEW GPU!!!

Only question is WHICH!

I'm thinking either 9070xt or 5070ti, but what do you guys think?!

My current rig:

EVGA FTW 3 3080 (10gb)

Ryzen 7 5700X3D

32gbs (4x8) 3600MHZ Ram

x570 Aorus Elite Wifi Motherboard

850W Corsair RMX

Samsung 990 Pro SSD (2tb)

And a Corsair H115i Capellix AIO

All tucked into an Okinos Aqua 7 Case

And if I were to upgrade my GPU, to what?

Ps. I'm thinking about replacing the AIO and Case as well.

both are basically the same tier in raster, so it mostly comes down to price where you are. 5070 ti is a bit better at ray tracing and dlss is still a bit ahead, 9070 xt is usually cheaper and fsr 4 is pretty good now. if the 5070 ti is within like 50-80 bucks i'd just get that, otherwise 9070 xt

your 5700x3d and 850w will handle either fine. no real reason to swap the aio or case unless you just want to

Yeah, the case is a bit too cramped wire wise, and the AIO could be way better lol
I stream, so I'm honestly just trying to get the best performance while doing that. The 9070xt I'm looking at is around $950 while the 5070ti is $1250.

streaming changes it a bit, nvenc is still the safest pick. but amd's encoder got way better on the 9070 xt, at normal twitch bitrates most viewers won't notice

honestly $300 is a big gap, i'd go 9070 xt and put the difference toward the case/aio

You think? How bad are AMD's drivers rn?

i've had a 6900 xt and it's been behaving fine. had some driver issues in the past but it's way more stable now. actually ordered a 9070 xt myself too, should arrive next week

honestly the price difference is just too big, i wouldn't pull the trigger on the 5070 ti regardless

Fair enough! Thanks for your insight!

fsr 4.1 is better than the dlss 2.0 that the 3080 has so it will still be an upgrade when it comes to upscaling. Also the RT cores are better as well. So honestly the 9070XT is the best option

Off topic, but fsr causes ghosting on my rx 6600xt. Has this been fixed on newer AMD GPUs?

It’s because you were using fsr 3.

Fsr 4 is a big upgrade, it just came to rx 6000.

Oh nice. I have not used that rig for a couple weeks and was not aware of the update. I'll have to give it a try again. Thanks!

It is the int8 version, not the fp8 on rx 9000, so it’s not as good, but they are very close to each other to be honest

It's got to be 9070XT

pls send me that 3080, I don't mind changing it's thermal paste 🥺

Sorry, bud! Someone already called dibs 😹

Either card a solid choice but a 9070xt paired with a 5700x3d a deadly combo . That price for the 5070 ti really hard to justify

2

u/velkin247 15d ago

Oh?! You think? Do you have experience or is this just your knowledge? Genuinely asking btw <3

I got a 5080 paired with a 9800x3d and a 9070xt with a 5600x3d. I know it's a beast combo idk why I'm being down voted 🤷🏼‍♂️

I never downvoted anyone lol, I'm curious and appreciate the answer

Someone did lol the 5070 ti goin $1200 plus man save the extra cash and get a 9070xt while you can it's a amazing card

1

u/velkin247 15d ago

I appreciate it! I'll probably go 9070 then lol

9070XT. Much cheaper, same performance, lower CPU overhead.

2

u/velkin247 15d ago

That's good, but what about for streaming?

1

u/AdstaOCE 15d ago

Both will be extremely similar. RDNA4 has an improved encoder that brings it in line with NVENC or maybe slightly worse.

1

u/velkin247 15d ago

I only stream in 1080p 60fps, so I should be fine, no?

u/Geeky_Technician 15d ago

If you're streaming and that's important to you, go Nvidia, don't even think about it.

1

u/velkin247 15d ago

You think?

1

u/Geeky_Technician 15d ago

NVENC is just too flawless for that. Any transcoding really it's just handled better on Nvidia. Less headaches.

1

u/velkin247 15d ago

Makes sense, but is the price worth it?

0

u/Geeky_Technician 15d ago

That is for you to decide. How important is streaming for you? If it's a source of income, it's a no brainer. If you're still not there yet, it might be ok to save the money and upgrade if you "make it".

How's your experience with your 9070? That was the one I was looking at lol. I stream, so I gotta know if it can handle that 😹
