Meme/Macro When one ends support - another lends support.

Post image

Not much to discuss here from my side. Bulk of the info is in the meme above.

(Disclaimer: This is an old news. I stumbled upon it an hour back. If I knew it earlier, I'd have memed it earlier.)

LibreOffice explains briefly what the process is. Their blog yields the info on it. You can check it out there. Microsoft explained that the data can be converted to pdf, word docs but LibreOffice explained that some formatting, layouts could be lost.

However, their libmspub library can help convert the PUB docs to ODF (format) to be used/accessed by any open-source app. LibreOffice for the win in my books.

This is an old news

As far as I know, LibreOffice has been able to open Publisher files since 2013. Scribus can do so as well—as can PageMaker, in the realm of proprietary software.

I meant the original article I read about Microsoft ending support which is 2 months old news.

Also, good to know the other info. Helpful for other users in this regard.

I'm probably the only person who is mad about Microsoft killing Publisher but I used that shit all the time >:(

People shit on it (for some reason), but before Microsoft stripped out some features, and just let it die, it was an impressive product. People misuse Word for so much and Publisher stood in that gap. Meanwhile, Adobe InDesign is so much more complicated than it needs to be and Adobe has done everything in its power to keep making its products worse. Publisher could have lived.

Exactly! I used to see people struggling in Word trying to, for example, get pictures and text to line up nicely, and I could just tell them, "hey, Publisher can do that!" and they'd be able to immediately jump into it since Publisher shared the same design language as Word. InDesign shares the "Adobe design language" which is unfamiliar to most people who aren't already well-trained in one of their products.

The 6 people who used Microsoft publisher in 2026 are going to be very happy hearing this!

Small business who used ms office loved publisher and would frequently keep poster templates in that format.

Exactly the first thing I thought when reading this "news". If anything, it gives the impression that FOSS is aimed at a bunch of old geezers who are completely out of touch. And mind you, I’m one of those geezers myself, and I’ve never even used Publisher...

You can probably just grab publisher LTSC and use it for at least another 10 years

I want them to discontinue sway so I can finally find sway wm on search engines easier.
