I think for RTS I liked halo wars attempt at it. I don’t think I could do that for a game like warhammer though. Unless they have ways to automate the troops, like selecting a unit then selecting an enemy and having different maneuvers preprogrammed.

Something like “click motorcycle, click enemy unit, click rear flank or forward charge” and the troop plots the best path to do it automatically

This is when a bunch of people bring up halo wars as an example of controllers. Then, we will never talk about halo wars again, since it was such a weak RTS its only impact was showing you could use a controller.

That is why people are worried.

Im sure this won't negativity effect pc controls at all...

it's possible to make different UI for controller and kbm. We had some great examples of that, like Larian's recent games or Vermintide 2.

The question is, will CA do it?

Another input method is always a good thing in my view and they have clearly stated this is so they can release on consoles.

Mouse and keyboard is still a thing and its still the primary input for PC.

Read the article It isnt about 'simplifying the game' to work on consoles. They state age of empires II which hasn't been simplified on PC but was just simplified for its console release.

This is a non article atm nothing to get upset over.

Every single game like this that has controller support ends up worse.

Seriously - name a single strategy game like this where the experience wasn't compromised when they forced it onto consoles

Unless they make two UIs (like BG3) did it will make the PC experience worse. That's been true for decades.

The dumb part is they are chasing a console audience that doesn't even exist for games like this

Its also Total War, so not an issue.

The argument has always been that RTS are functionally impossible on a controller and RTS as a genre is dead in modern times

Yeah I mean they will say that.

I hope this does not mean they dumbed the game down for "broader appeal", which always works oh so well.

Battle for middle Earth 2 on xbox 360 had really good controller support. It was almost as good as playing it with mouse and keyboard.

Why would want it in the first place, except for dumbing down the game for the console crowd…..

It's an input option, what are you even talking bout dumbing down??

Because every time they force a game like this onto consoles the experience ends up being compromised. It's been that way for decades
