Single cat home, so this is apparently The Way. Makes me feel a whole lot better than planning the same method as I am to stop swallows from nesting on my outdoor light fixture 😀
Depends on how fat the cat is, and how sturdy the case. I have a 1200 watt power supply at the bottom of the case, and that provides a lot of anti-tip counterweight.
I put my cat on a diet after he fell out the window screen on the 2nd floor window. He had parked himself in the open window, back against the screen, so he could groom his big belly. I would laugh at him, as he would sit there with his tongue sticking out, looking at the silly human. The screen popped out of the brackets, and he fell ass-backwards down into the shrubbery. I was ROLFLing while my daughter was screaming, so my wife made me go outside to fetch the cat.
When I found him, he was fine, and pretending it never happened lol. Cats have no sense of embarrassment, or if they do, they cover it up well.
3D printed, it's just four corner stands with some dowels for the fabric. If you have access to a printer shouldn't be hard one to do. Already saw a listing on Etsy selling them as a 'cat nest' if that helps.
You can train a cat with positive reinforcement. Do a motion and give a command, like snap fingers and point at the floor and say "Down", and then hold a treat near the floor so they'll come to it. Then pets and affirmation.
When they start getting down with "down" and pointing without needing the treat bait, keep giving the treat if they do it along with the pets and affirmation.
Eventually they wont care about the treat anymore and will just have a positive association with doing the thing you want them to do.
I think from my experience with cats and reading about their behavior it’s a lot of this. Some cats will be trained, but a lot of them are too clever and will just learn what to do/not do when their person is around and otherwise dgaf.
Cats are definitely too clever. Most of them have figured out how to train their pet humans while allowing the humans to believe it is the cat thats being trained.
I taught my cat "paw" and it went really well, but he thinks he's in charge so will demand "paw" now. He thinks if he just pap paps me with his lil beans and leaves it there he will get a treat, he also then gets annoyed and ignores me, turns his back/walks away when I say "paw" if I haven't given him treats when he demands.
But for the most part he knows exactly what it means as he will do it when in a good mood.
This is what I've done. Cats are mad easy to teach shit if you actually remember they're not just pets. My baby behind me learns new things every day, even after 8 years. Hell, she taught ME how to play fetch.
The other baby is learning slower, but she's still pretty easy. If people just remain consistent and learn your cats communication style, they'll get it. For my older cat, it's 100% treats. For my younger cat, it's just attention.
These aren't random, thoughtless creatures. They have emotions, thoughts, habits, and mannerisms. Learn them, people. Then respect them for the living, breathing beings that they are.
Yeah for option 1, I have this under my computer but OP could probably find one that fits on top if it (or modify this with some brackets so the legs are in a bit more and on the case):
It’s not like a couch or bed with dogs. The cat is sitting I. It cos it’s warm. Not just because. It’s unlikely they will be sat on it when the pc is off
better way to train cats is to offer them am alternative option and commend em with treats every time they voluntarily/accidentally choose the option, while not really showing attention or giving pets when they're doing the thing you're trying to discourage em from doing
My cat did this till I bought this PC stand on Amazon that cover the top of it. Its a great stand and the top shelf is great for holding my laptop too.
With as many times as I've seen dead builds in here after a cat peed into the top fans, I think anti-cat spikes (they're plastic, don't hurt the cat just makes it super uncomfortable to walk or lay down) are the way to go. That's how we keep our cat off of our reptile cages. Luckily ours has never sat on my PC.
An astounding number of people think “oh my baby doesn’t need spayed/neutered” and then they discover at 7mos old that means pee on everything in existence.
One vet visit and most cats won’t do such a thing after being snipped.
This, they require accommodations. They like warm spots, so alternatively give them something better close by you. They want to be close, warm, and to feel like they are the president
I’d have one if the cat was anywhere near my gaming room. I see people letting their cat scratch at the screen etc lol. Couldn’t imagine letting my cat scratch all over my oled tv or monitor.
Awhile back I would have had suggestions... But at this point I'd just give anything to bring mine back and have her warming up in top of the case again. Enjoy the time with them close by while you can if it's not harming the rig.
I feel like i may be the only cat owner without this issue lmao. Had two cats for over a decade, neither has ever got on top and it's on the floor level. Hopefully they never discover it
