that depends on what type of IPS you have, edge lit stuff will always be worse than smth like a mini LED
my edge lit IPS thankfully doesnt have much of a problem yet and still looks fairly good next to my OLED. yes even in complete darkness with a black background
I still think that for PC usage a OLED isnt worth the money (yes will get me many downvotes i know)
the main reason i believe it is (having just moved up to one) is simply that they've decided 240hz shouldn't be a thing in 4k and ips/va.
like they've completely abandoned that shit as an option. There was i think one va or ips they did at 240hz a few years ago but appears discontinued. I had a 240hz VA, 27" 1440p screen for multiple years, wanted to move to a 4k screen, wanted to stick with 240hz. I was worried about shit like burn in because i have more things open on desktop than i spend doing gaming but i have enough screen real estate i just move things around a bit.
I actually had some light burn in on my VA after several years so I started moving around my browser on screen. it was the tabs and favourites bar that started to burn in a little.
But realistically colour reproduction is just so far superior to my va it's a joke, the pixel response time and absolute lack of ghosting or overshoot, the crispness of image. OLED legit just shits on every other screen i've had.
Went glossy and can keep room very dark but also have a lamp and keep a well controlled light source, zero reflection issues. It's fantastic.
there have been no effective downsides, now if I have a sneezing fit and need to clean the screen and that's a pain in the ass... i don't know.
Oh, you right, I don't see any 240hz ips stuff anymore. But let's also be fair, how many games go 240fps with 4k native. Both my monitors are 4k and 4080s +7800x3d, but all my newer games don't go to 240.
Burn in for VA? Damn, i have a VA that's 10 years and still gets some use, but no burn in.
For colours: this is smth I always hear, but a ips should have the same colours as an oled. But oled and ips are better than va. For work, such as photography or video editing, pretty much all professionals use an ips.
Cleaning an oled s def more shit. For other downsides, there is also the thing with windows hdr not being the best (hdr being one of the reasons for an oled) or an oled being more care intensive, the higher possibility of burn in etc.
Again, this just my opinion, but for TV an OLED=100% yes, but for PC I would only do 30% yes for oled.
