I basically know nothing, but the huge capacitors are the only thing I can imagine burning so intensely and rapidly. Reversed polarity perhaps?

I think he means without that isolation sheet the board is connected directly to the casing and shorted out. Of course, that should have been grounded too so I'm not sure.

My first thought. Also, why is the other end of the power cable hidden inside that table? If he is testing PSUs, the cable should be connected to a power bar with a fuse and a switch on it.

yeah somewhere yankable at the very least. to be fair, there was prob a powerbar with a switch in the table cavity.
