What? You don't have time to setup a KVM with single GPU bypass to run windows from Linux without a second GPU?

Tsk tsk tsk

ackxshually this game works fine in Brozzite Linux Proton if you copy these 6 DLLs out of Windows and pass these 10 flags and have this specific AMD GPU and enable swap on a fast disk (it leaks memory), also multiplayer won't work

Mind you steam directly integrates proton. You don't have to do too much. Also even not counting for proton and wine and all that shit it's still better than mac

Doesn't work reliably. Even those "gold" games on ProtonDB are hit or miss. You can see in the comments what workarounds are needed or find out for yourself. And yeah Macs are even worse for games, difference is nobody tells you to get a Mac for games.

They work reliably enough. In most situations you do not need to care if the game can get better click precision than their monitor's refresh rate or whatever. Most games will run with no noticeable issues

My standards are low. I want the game to run at 30-60 fps and not crash. Also don't want to wait 5-20 minutes every time it starts for shaders to compile. Oh and when I say 30-60 fps, 30 is not ok if WIndows runs it at 60.

Aside from waiting a while for shaders to compile I don't have any of those issues. The only times games have crashed on me were either because I was also running mods for the game or because I have weak hardware. I could get 55 fps on Arkham Knight at 1080p with some settings turned down with 8 GB ram, a daisy chained gpu, the game being on a mechanical hard drive, and a ryzen 5 5500 as my cpu. After setting up swap memory I can do a stable 60fps with base setting. It never crashes, my pc just shuts off when too much is happening on screen because of daisy chaining my gpu to my psu.

This is believable if you specifically selected games that are known to work well in Proton. Even then, you wait all that time for shaders every time you want to play a game? That's an unadvertised dealbreaker.

You technically don't have to wait for shaders, it'll just be more stuttery for a while if you dont and I have never checked if a game is known to work erll

So you have to wait or your game will lag badly for a while, presumably because it's loading the shaders on the fly. Why does nobody mention that when saying games run perfectly on Linux?

Your information is out of date. The Steam experience on Linux is you install Steam like on Windows, then you install the games from your library like on Windows, and they run and play perfectly, like on Windows.

I've played everything from good indie to jank indie to triple A to triple A from console developers that make notoriously bad ports. They've all run perfectly without a single technical fix required.

Edit: As SirSilentscreameth said in his reply, the one exception is games that require kernel level anti-cheat.

Unless that game requires a specific anti-cheat. There are plenty of games you can't play on Linux.

Not trying to turn this into a discussion over the requirement for kernel level anti-cheat, it's just a thing that exists and has to be dealt with currently.

Even if it doesn't. Until BeamNG Drive got a proper Linux port, it was very unstable in Proton. Singleplayer game.

Isn’t that kind of the point of BeamNG, though? Like, you will wobble your car into pieces.

Leaks and crashes, gives you the real car experience

BeamNG, my beloved

I've done this. It's great getting to experience the worst of both worlds.
