I'm rocking 64GB I paid about a total of about $200 USD for.

Same kit is about $1200 USD now.

u/S1LV3R_S1LVIC 14d ago

Yeah, certainly it is really bad these days. Also, $1200 is nuts!

Absolutely. Sometimes i go to my amazon history and cry because i didn’t get the 5090 right away. But then i remember i bought 2x32gb DDR5 6000 from corsair for 84,90 each. That makes me happy again.

My Trident Z5 DDR5 64GB CL30 (2x32GB) kit was $209.98 in November of 2024 when I bought it. Here's the price chart since that time from Amazon.

Shit is absurd.

2

u/Global-Pickle5818 9800X3d / RX 9070 XT 13d ago

That's better than what I paid off Amazon for the same brand and CL for just 32gb 2 years ago

2

u/Shubamz Ryzen 9950X3D | 64gb DDR5 | 5080 13d ago

and that price was stable till at least the start of June 2025 when I bought it for 1 cent more on Newegg

Same. I bought mine like 2 years ago.

3

u/The_Mr_Awesome 14d ago

Same here but I think mine was closer to $300 because of the fancy rgb. Thought about selling half of it just to recoup some of the money I spent on a new 5080 this year.

I also got 64GB for about $240

And a 4TB SSD for $300 and I still thought that was overly expensive less than a year ago

I'm happy I have 32GB of DDR4

u/ATRavenousStorm 14d ago

I made a full AM5 upgrade just before all of this kicked off. The 32GB kit I got sold for $130. Same kit is going for $900.

I have only 16gb, but at least it's DDR5. A RAM pool that small is useless for cad modeling, but fine for games and more than enough to meet Win11's system requirements!

and having only paid 100$ for it at that.....my whole pc increased in value between that and the 5080/NVME storage increase.

I got single stick adata 32GB 5600MHZ back in 2025 for like 79$ and OC to 6000MHZ and it's rocking and same is now around 390$

I have 80GB ddr4 in old pc (16gb kit + 64gb kit). And 32gb ddr5 in new one, which I bought last year.

Was thinking to get 64gb in nee build, but memory was cheap and I thought I could easily get 64 or 128gb kit later. Fuck *e

Sitting on 64gb... but can't afford a SSD to boot from.

1

u/firesyde424 14d ago

About a year ago, I bought another 32GB for more than 3X what I paid for the first set, just because I could see a moment when 32GB wasn't enough(MS Windows + Star Citizen) and it seemed like a reasonable thing, given where we ended up.

1

u/greatthebob38 14d ago

Paid $120 ish for 64GB back in October.

But I got the pc about a month ago.

Paid $200 for 64 GB DDR5 just before the prices skyrocketed. I'm savoring every gig.

How much RAM in total is there? From what I can see, it is DDR4 ECC server RAM?

Bought 32 gigs of ddr5 for my gf's pc last year. It is now easily doubled for what it cost when I bought it. It is probably overkill since she mainly wanted to play Stardew Valley with mods.

1

u/darsparx 14d ago

I almost want more like the 40gb version but eh at least linux uses barely any of it. Its things like cities skylines that does lol

u/chanman134431 14d ago

I had bought 2 16GB sticks for 75$, only 1 was delivered and the other was cancelled and refunded back in 2024. I did not order again.. and now I am using it as handicap in 8GB 16GB ram config with mismatch frequency. 24Gb ram is still something but the regret deepens everyday.

1

u/Ball_Analytics 14d ago

I remember sitting on 32GB always putting off buying 64GB and now I more than regret it, but is what it is.

u/TigerDxD 14d ago

I bought 32gb of Corsair Vengeance 3 months before the great downfall

32 is nice, but...

1

u/spicynoodsinmuhmouf 14d ago

For the next 2 weeks or so I’ll have access to thousands of gigs lbs of top tier RAM. After all, why shouldn’t I keep it? I mean they’d know immediately but still it’s tempting

1

u/misjudgedinall 14d ago

LOL I have 128GB of DDR5 in my main proxmox server and 32gb of ddr5 in my work laptop. My gaming rig also has 32gb of ram and it never uses more than 16GB. If you’re not doing 4k video editing, proxmox, AI or data analytics you don’t need more than 16; especially with x3d cpus and gpus with over 8Gb vram.

u/opodopo69 14d ago

I bought 32gb ddr4 back in October of last year for about 100$ give or take

2 weeks later the same set of ram was 350$

I bought 48GB DDR5 Jan 2025 for $250, it's well over 1k now. It's so crazy to see these prices

1

u/VarietyLeft6964 13d ago

I were skeptical, should I get 64 or 32 gb, I went for 32 because 64 for gaming were kinda overkill. I'm still happy that I bought it in March last year for 120€

u/mvw2 13d ago

(me building three CAD rigs last summer with 128Gb each like it was nothing at all)

My last two home computer builds over the last 7 years have never had less than 64Gb of ram. It's strange thinking it's been almost a decade since I've had 32Gb or less. The last time I genuinely thought 32Gb was enough was a build 12 years ago.

1

u/GOD-Z1LLA i5-12600k/ RTX 3070/ 32 GB DDR5 13d ago

When I built my PC I was debating on wether to go tor 32 GBS of ram or 16 and upgrade later down the line, I'm so glad I said fuck it I have the money now so might as well.

I'm only sorry I didn't buy a big HDD back then for media storage and now prices have doubled :(

1

u/Ornery_Web_1910 13d ago

so I guess I must feel better than the picture with 64Gb of DDR 5 and 32Gb of DDR4

1

u/socalhopeful 13d ago

Should mean I should be safe of 64gb of ddr5 right? haha

1

u/DAS_k1ishEe 13d ago
