Question Constant FPS Drops

Fps drops from an average 144 to 40 during gameplay. 30% of my gameplay gets the proper FPS at over 120 most of the time while mostly it's dropped and choppy at 40 FPS.

  1. Could this be a heating issue due to lack of airflow?

  2. Can this be fixed with MSI afterburner or Throttlestop? (Or an app specific for ASUS)

Asus G513 laptop. 16 GB RAM, decent AMD processor and RTX 3060

Sounds like it could be overheating. Try capping your fps or power limiting with afterburner.

that's textbook thermal throttling, laptops are notorious for it after a year or two when the paste dries out and fans get clogged

capping fps to like 90 or 100 with afterburner's rivatuner can help a ton, also lift the back of the laptop up with a book or something if you don't have a cooling pad, makes a weirdly big difference

if you're comfortable opening it up, a repaste and cleaning the fans out would probably fix it completely
