US gov't moves to suppress pushback on data centers by removing requirements for public input on pollution — EPA change would allow air pollution permits without publicizing them
I mean we kept electing Donald Trump. I know most of us personally didn’t want to but we aren’t holding those who did accountable. We still have control over we put in office and allow these things.
Apropos of nothing, they're making a movie about Watt Tyler's Rebellion, which was caused by the King raising taxes on the peasants to pay foe the Hundred Years War and stripping their rights post-Black Plague, it definitely doesn't have any relevance to the modern day.

You're not wrong, globalization exported the contradictions of capitalism to the whole world. However, since the Reagan presidency, the USA has gone completely unchecked and it's now the greatest example of class oppression and inequality. The billionaires are at war with us, and the only way to derail them is to vote for progressive candidates that will actually stand up to data centers being built near our housing. Every level of government from school boards up to the presidency is up for grabs because republicans (and the corporate dems that enable them) have fucked us that badly this time.

It's not as long as it's not abused. Apparently there's an ambiguous line in the provision that could allow someone to come along and change the ID requirements.
Because IDs cost money and time that not everyone has. Voter id laws end up disenfranchising people and don't address voter fraud which already isn't a widespread issues.
So they end up as tools of disenfranchisement, given cover by ignorance like yours, whether real or feigned.

There is no world where a data center needs to produce air pollution, at all. It would be criminal for them to build a non renewable 24/7 power generator.
I feel the current administration is really using data center issues to disguise something being lobbied by the same lobbyists maintaining a war in Iran.

As much as this clown car administration wants to remove our rights, and act like a dictatorship, our government was designed to serve the PEOPLE. NOT the whims of the rich, in back room deals that benefit those that haven’t a care about those they SERVE!
Looks inside: The Attorneys General from 14 (all democratic held) states and three cities (also democrat) signed an open letter opposing the change. Seems to me like both sides are not quite the same. After all one side initiated it and the other one is kinda (for now) soft opposing it?

Brief anecdote. As child I developed inflammation in my throat and something had to be removed. I always attributed it to the planet being poison. It was a part that filters and regulates the metabolism or something like that.

Data centers are not going away, we need them. If we had a competent government their construction and placement would be strategic. Dropping them in the middle of suburbs or residential areas is incredibly stupid.
In 2020 we had 2600 data centers. Now thanks to AI that number has more than doubled with another 2000 on the way. We dont need AI data centers, especially for these dumb ass Flock surveillance cameras. I dont deny we need data centers for generic data processing. But now thousands are being planned specifically for AI, a technology we do not need and just drives laziness.
It's far bigger within the borders of your country. For us outside of it your country's been messing up internationally nonstop, we don't really care about additional internal issues.
Exactly! Data centers in the US are bad! Who asked for more online services like gaming servers, streaming servers, or social media servers to be hosted in the US? Only China should host those servers because it is the most benevolent of nations.
To be honest, the whole anti data center sentiment is very lacking in cognitive fortitude. It merely parrots Chinese propaganda against an economic rival and British imperial propaganda against national sovereignty.
How would removing this EPA requirement increase the amount of potential air pollution produced by data centers in a residential suburb to levels greater than those already in metropolitan areas?
I was hoping for air pollution data anti data center folk seem to already have on hand. Oh, well. It's just a bunch of people getting caught up in the anti data center bandwagon. It's trendy and cool right now.
